Just bought the box set for 20 bills! from Sainsburys.. havnt seen it for many years but can’t believe just how funny it is! And it’s all down to George! Needless to say It’s getting watched round the clock. I think they were a lot of good comedy series around in the 70s, with some better than others, but for me George and Mildred is 2nd from the top with Fawlty towers being first

It wasnt bad. I used to watch it in the 70s and saw one a week or two back on ITV 3 or 4 and it was still funny. Sweeney star in it too, the guy next door, forgotten his name, was in Taste of Fear.

Dennis Waterman had an amusing role in ‘Man about the house’ as a German student, getting up George’s hooter. Does anyone think George and Mildred worked better in ‘Man about the house’?

I like both of them & Robin's Nest but I think G&M is a lot funnier, the pair of them were brilliant actors, one of the best comedy partnerships in all comedy & for me their scenes in MATH are the best bits of an episode.

George & Mildred is currently being repeated on itv 3 in the mornings! The more I watch this series the more I realise just how funny it is! and certainly didn’t appreciate it the same the first time round! I’ve changed my stance on it now, over all it’s a lot funnier than Fawlty towers’ and probably the best 70s comedy series they was, just my opinion. Brian Murphy was just iconic!

I think many 70's sitcoms get written off as rubbish by people who haven't watched them properly, G&M is genuinely funny. I rate Brian Murphy & Yootha Joyce's double act up there with Laurel & Hardy. Who has played a married couple better in a comedy?
The pair of them were members of Joan Littlewood's Theatre Workshop, they just had a magic rapport. No surprise that another Theatre Workshop performer, Roy Kinnear, slotted in so perfectly as George's friend Jerry. The script was good but it's all about onscreen chemistry.
Btw, I like Fawlty Towers but I think it's a bit overrated, or maybe it's just that the traditional sitcoms like 'On The Buses' are underrated & unfairly dismissed as dated.

I guess fawlty towers is a funny one in a way coz it was so intense but hey they was only 12 episodes! Who knows how it would of panned out if they’d been more. Man about the house is also on itv 3 currently along side George & Mildred so I’m watching them as well. Thought G & M was a better spin off’ but its unique cos ya get a double dose of Roper’ lol! got me thinking yesterday and looked on Wikipedia and realised ya had man about the house, G & M and Robins nest all covering most of the 70s in succession! how good was that! and that’s not to mention, running along side with the likes of Fawlty towers, Porridge, Ain’t half hot mum, guess ya spoilt for choice of good comedy back then! in the 70s, Unlike today ha! I noticed watching Man about the house yesterday that the opening titles feature a scene showing a homeless guy focusing on Jo and the camera zooms in on her derrière! It was absolutely unbelievable lol what were they thinking of!! Just shows how sexist the 70s were towards women and the way they were portrayed and explored, and I’ve not even mentioned On the Buses haha!

It's a matter of personal taste of course but I rate Fawlty Towers as one of the all time greats. Original, hilarious and didn't outstay its welcome.
