I recently watched the Status Quo -Live And Acoustic video which was recorded at London's Roundhouse. A lot of the bands hits really work in this format and this was a good gig first seen on BBC4 back at December 2014 I believe. Recommended if you're a fan. Then -1968 Pictures Of Matchstick Men
Now - 2014

Great find Derek I was never keen on the original version of PoMM, I know it was of its time but it really was a duff one for me. However, the 2014 acoustic version knocks spots off the original and I would listen to that if it were on a (yet another) greatest hits album rather than skip past as I currently do. Sam.

Interesting Sam. The original is definitely time marked with that phasing effect running throughout. Very 68, Itchycoo Park had a similar use of it. I can see it would be like Marmite to many. I don't mind the original track but agree the adding of the strings and acoustics makes this track less harsh ergo a better listen.
Here's a bit more : Down Down - 1974

Now that post is different and I must admit it gives me a tinge of sadness to watch the latter.
I remember Down Down in the charts back in '74, having the albums 'Quo', 'Hello', 'Blue For You', and 'If You Can't Stand The Heat' during the course of the 70s but seeing them in the acoustic set struggling, understandably so, to hit the high notes is showing them to be far from their best and of course it was barely two years later that Rick Parfitt died followed the very next day by George Michael.
Sam.

Oh yes of course they are far from their best. I'm sure the band would agree with that statement. This chilled take on the songs goes along with the mature age of the group. Its a celebration of their own music really. I note the sound is quite compressed which doesn't help. The gig pops up on BBC4 every now and then, worth watching with a beer.

Boys Of Summer - Don Henley -1984 The ubiquitous chilled take on a classic is a fickle thing, some work others not so much. I quite like what Don Henley has done with his 1984 hit Boys Of Summer. Not bad for a Tom Petty reject. Who knew. Then - 1984
Now -2015

I think the original is a brilliant track but would agree that the chilled spin on it works well too. There were a couple of moments where I thought it could have been perked up a bit but on the flip side a couple of sections that could have been more chilled. For a live recording on a show the whole arrangement worked well. Thanks for posting Del. Sam.
