Be great if this comes off.
There was a suggestion a few year ago of doing a one off TV Film of "Life on Mars" - the BBC said no.
I'd like to see a bit more of Life on Mars - either a prequel, where you get to find out a little more about Gene & Co, or perhaps as suggested by Burtonshaw - around 1977-1980, just before the transfer to the smoke.
You could say the same about both the Sweeney or Minder. I'd love to see prequels for both, where you get to find out more about Regan and Carters pathways through the police to "the squad" and at the same time in Minder you find out more about Arthurs and Terrys past. Leon Griffith wrote quite a detailed treatment and character biogs for Minder which tells you quite a bit about Arthur and Terry. I got the impression that "Terry" in Minder was the path that "George Carter" could have taken had he not joined the Police.

Morbid as it sounds, they could do a prequel to A2A up to the point where Sam is drowned and the squad move down to London.

I did enjoy LOM the first time around and would like to see them continue the story. Hopefully they can make it the same quality as the first series which is not so easy after a long gap. Auf Pet springs to mind. The Auf Pet 2000's reboot also springs to mind too here Del. Not wanting be a sceptic but I just feel there's been too much of a gap since the two series ended over a decade ago and maybe what made it good and special in 2006/07 might not be there now. Also John Simm does look visibly older/different than he did in LoM these days too. Still be nice if they buck the trend and could pull this off. They could always do a bit of techy work like they did on 'The Irishman' to make De Niro, Pacino and Pesci look younger.

Do we really think it will happen though? I mean it would be amazing news but I just don't hold out much hope. It seems so far from the public consciousness now, which is criminal!!, but does seem to be the case. It's always rather nice when a fan climbs out of the woodwork though. Or maybe fan isn't the word, but someone who at least remembers it. I was in Tesco looking at the phones since mine now dies with 30% battery and the bloke working in there said "Is that a Life on Mars case?" I mean, it was Gene perched on the Quattro ... but it's more recognition than I normally encounter, at least!

Not sure it would be a good idea anyway, not many of these re-starts work.
Is it worth the risk?
The story arc seemed pretty much complete anyway.

1) WHO owns the rights to it. 2) If it's reverted back to the Writer/Creators, it'd be then up to them to find a Producer and cash to make it. 3) The Cast (Phil / John / Liz etc) need to agree.
If the BBC still own the rights to the programme, it's them who have to be convinced that it's worth rebooting. So - it'd be down to Matthew Graham / Ashley Pharaoh to put together a good synopsis & reason - and then put on a good pitch in the office of the BBC Drama Controller. (Best of luck).
I think there is a little more scope in "Life on Mars", particularly post 1973/4. Perhaps set it around 1977-1979, to factor in Gene & Co's move to the smoke.
A thread on potential story lines then? (we should include them in the pitch too!!)
Footnote:
With "Auf Pet" - Franc Roddam wanted to make a S3 during the 1980s/1990s. However Central TV still owned the rights and wanted to leave it where it was. Dick & Ian (writers) were also too busy in Hollywood too.
Come 2000, the rights had reverted back to Franc Roddam - ITV was becoming the shit state it is now, so he took the idea to the BBC.

Life On Mars - The Final Chapter.
From Matt Graham (Co Writer).
If you're on Twitter, reply and tell the writers how much you want the whole team back together. Gene, Sam, Alex, Raymondo etc etc.
Gene.

That was a very entertaining hour, watching Life On Mars Series 1 Episode 1 with both Ashley Pharoah & Matthew Graham. They gave a few spoilers as to what to expect from the final chapter. Here are a few of the best Tweets during the live watch. They should attend the Meet So.... It really is going to happen, and they are going to cut no corners with it either!
