Don’t know if it’s just me but the current heatwave is taking me back to the great summers I remember from the late 70s. I am currently at home as I got laid off again from work and I just can’t help but spend time outside in the sunshine, listening to some stuff from the summers of 75,76,77 and 79. Not 78, great year that it was, the summer was wet!
Today I had another 76 session,
Pluto Dat 10cc I’m Mandy Fly me Cliff Richard Devil Woman Eagles Take it to the limit Billy Ocean Love really hurts without you
The burnt grass, clear blue skies and these great songs are sending me on a real nostalgia trip and I can’t resist these great summer hits.
The weather might be reminding me of the 70s but to complete the illusion we need great TV and the streets to be full of proper classic motors!

A great idea for a thread Cartman Where do I start? Songs that I find synonymous with Summer sun are the ones I find myself playing year in year out when out driving in the car at this time of year. Here are a few that make that playlist: That's just a few out of many that get aired every summer.... Gene.

I can't disagree with any of the above, all great tunes. Its funny the California Dreamin is such a great summer track when the lyrics set the song deep in Winter.

Sorry to hear that you've been laid off Carty, I hope you've got enough Wonga to get by and that you'll be back in gainful employment soon. I remember all of those tunes that you've quoted from those years, and what great years they were. I would also add summer '74 to the list with tunes such as: Paul McCartney & Wings - Band On The Run Hues Corporation - Rock The Boat KC & The Sunshine Band - Queen Of Clubs For '76 I'd add: Manfred Mann's Earth Band - Blinded By The Light Paul McCartney & Wings - Silly Love Songs and the reissue of Beach Boys - Good Vibrations Great tunes from Gene too, Waterloo Sunset is a personal favourite so I listened to it all the way through twice. Sam.

'77? I'd add Candi Staton - Nights On Broadway and Carly Simon - Nobody Does It Better One very good memory associated with those tunes. Sam.

Memorable / favourite Summer tunes for me... 1967 : Itchykoo Park - The Small Faces, almost a throwaway p*ss take from the genius of Steve Marriot, but full of warmth and period charm. 1975 : 10cc - I'm Not In Love... utterly timeless, an instant classic. 1977 : Oh Lori - The Alessi Brothers. 1978 : 10cc - Dreadlock Holiday. 1980 : The Korgis - Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime, whistful and then some. 1980 : Abba - Winner Takes It All, sad but brilliant. Some brilliant choices here guys. From 1980 I add Xanadu by ELO and Olivia Newton John, and Jump to the Beat by Stacey Lattisaw
