Another thing with "Special Branch" too - I loved the Euston Films era titles and theme tune.
F*****g great stuff!
Though it seemed a bit of an anti-climax for the next 48minutes of story. The titles, fast, pacy, shoot outs, a car crashing, people running down stairs, punch ups with bold music - and then more than often the story lines (though good) were never as pacy and quick as this!!
Not sure if the music was specifically composed for the series - though throughout the series you can hear stings and variations on the actual piece. Not aware if it was a library peice, and Euston Films used all the various edits of it too.
Robert Earley wrote it all didn't he?
Network have released a 10" EP which includes the main theme and also some incidental music. I think record is the only format it's available on.

Wow! Thanks for posting this Peter. Do you have a copy of this - if so, is it the actual recordings?
Going to look out for this.

Yes Sparky i got it when Network had a sale. I haven't listened to the record yet as my record player is currently out of action but as soon as it's repaired i will let you know if the tracks are the originals.
The information on the Network website is as follows...
"Themes for TV Drama brings together some of Earley's best-known compositions, ranging from the smokey, jazz-tinged Public Eye (perfectly encapsulating the down-at-heel milieu of investigator Frank Marker) to the brassy, urgent aggression of Special Branch.
This EP is presented on 80g virgin vinyl featuring new transfers from original analogue tape elements. Mastering engineers Ray Staff and John Webber at Sir George Martin’s legendary AIR studios mastered the audio for this and cut the lacquers. The high quality pressing was done by the renowned Pallas pressing plant in Germany."
This makes me suspect that they are the original themes.

Seen a few of the 1973 episodes on TPTV recently and unlike those shown on Forces TV they're the uncut episodes as per the DVD's from what I can see.
I hope TPTV get's Fox which is being shown on London Live at the moment as a few snips have been made to that sadly.

I love Theme tune albums that pop up like this. They are real gems.
As we know, most of the usual Theme Tune albums have most of the same old tunes one; I've sometimes you end up buying the album for either one or two rare tracks. This compilation is still available, though I think I may wait on ordering it.
Funny you mention Record Player - I've just dug mine out and transferred a little bit to MP3.

That looks like a great record, the Man At The Top theme is one of my favourites.

It is a very good record, the quality of the pressing is good so the music sounds really good.
It has turned up in a couple of the Network sales over the last few months.

Air Studios are credited on the Album - assuming this is where the pieces were recorded or even mixed?
Air Studios was set up and operated by George Martin after he left Parlaphone/EMI around the time of the break up of the Beatles.
