People pay a fair whack to see a tribute band so they will pay for that. ABBA were clever on packing it In at the right time leaving people wanting more. True, I suppose. I'm not a massive fan of tribute acts myself, but I suppose they have their audience. It wasn't cool to like ABBA by the end though, was it? Now it's suddenly acceptable again. I imagine the Mamma Mia films helped ... despite them being unbearable

Thats right even in their heyday many considered them naff. I think it's because they're unashamedly pop and lovers of rock bands like to disassociate themselves from anything pop. I've always liked them myself and time has allowed people to appreciate their work more. ABBA'S hits are perfectly crafted masterpieces in my book.

I must admit I prefer Abba much more than I used to - were a "Supergroup" at the time. The Australians took to them well apparently.

The Australians would have claimed ABBA were theirs if they thought they could get away with it! Funny how a particular country can have such a reaction, but they certainly did!
I loved them from the day my dad gave me some of their cassettes when I was 5. Then I didn’t listen to them so much for several years when I was only listening to classic rock and prog ... and now I listen to all sorts of different things.
and if you’re going to like Pop, then ABBA is the very best.

For me, although I liked ABBA when they first appeared after Eurovision with Waterloo, S.O.S etc up to about '76, it soon became a bit too much with the hype at the time. Consequently I started to get irritated by them - they became a case of "you can have too much of a good thing".
It was then once they'd disbanded and the hype died down that the recognition of their work could once again be appreciated.

I was a massive Abba fan from about 75 until 80 ish, I first heard of them, when they won Eurovision in 74 with Waterloo, but then they seemed to fade away and looked like they would go the way of most Euro winners, until they came up with SOS in late 75, which was when I started to get into them, Their next hit, Mamma Mia was the one which really made them into superstars and kicked off their great run of huge hits.
To me, their last really top quality song was Super Trouper at the end of 1980 and they tapered off after that. Should they reform? IMO, no, I prefer to remember them as they were. On the other hand, Blondie, who I was also a huge fan of, went away for years but came back with the excellent Maria in 1998 so, who can tell?

This project has seen the starters gun after all. It consists of an album called Voyage and next year will have an accompanying stage show based at London's Olympic Park Stratford. Dubbed The ABBA Arena it has a 3000 seat capacity.

The single release off the new album is called I still have faith in you, it's on YouTube. It's passable, sort of like the kind of stuff they did late in their career, when their run of success was tapering off, in 81/2.
Is it up to the standard of when they were at their peak in 76-80? No.

That's how I see it Cartman. I like the fact that the show is actually them motion captured over a five week period before the technology comes into play. I assumed it would be all graphics / animation. This is an interesting project in many respects as its a glimpse into the future. I'm sure other bands will go down this route.

Is it the project they announced 3 years ago? I wonder if they'll get Network to release a blu ray of the event
