A couple with David Jason have just sprung to mind. The Top Secret Life of Edgar Briggs, I would guess mid 70s and A Sharp Intake of Breath, about 79/80 ish. I seem to remember Richard Wilson was in it too.

I seem to remember Richard Wilson was in it too. My parents used to watch A Sharp Intake of Breath in the late 1970s. It was probably the first show I remember David Jason being in before his major TV acting breakthrough as Del Boy very soon after. This clip from Network to promote the DVD release has Richard Wilson in it.

One really good comedy series which has never been repeated or released on dvd is 'Fairly Secret Army' starring Geoffrey Palmer as a disgruntled ex Army Major who tries to organise his own militia. It's really well written by David Nobbs & is genuinely funny. Two series were made for Channel 4 in 1984/86, the first is better than the second. The Minder special 'An Officer And A Car Salesman' has a similar character played by Richard Briers, both were directed by Roy Ward Baker. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fairly_Secret_Army

I remember this from the mid 80s only because it was filmed in my home town of Newcastle under Lyme. I may watch it again, as I actually really can’t remember that much and I like the sexy blonde bird in the trailer :D

Yes I remember Fairly Secret Army, with Geoffrey Palmer, I think it was based on the character of Reggie's brother in law in The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin, the bloke who used to turn up, on the scrounge for food "bit of a cock up on the catering front" It wasn't bad.
A Most Peculiar Practice was OK too, seem to remember Barbara Flynn from The Beiderbecke Affair was in it and looked quite sexy in a nurses uniform!

I recently bought 'Noah's Castle' on dvd, a children's serial made by Southern TV shown during April/May in 1980. Based on a 1975 novel, it depicts an 'austerity Britain' where food shortages are causing civil unrest, most of the unrest is being caused by Mike Reid who plays a shady spiv character who drives round town with a mob in a van stealing food, his young son is played by Zammo from Grange Hill. Chris Fairbank plays a kindhearted shoe shop worker who sets up the 1979 equivalent of a food bank. The story follows a family headed by a stern military type who buys a large house ( the 'castle' of the title ) on the outskirts of the town. Here he illegally stockpiles food, once it gets out that the house is full of food it becomes a target for Mike Reid. So far it's a pretty good watch let down by a low budget unable to convey the scale of the civil unrest & some indifferent acting by the younger cast members. Like other shows made by Southern tv Noah's Castle been shown on talkingpicturestv. hinterlandblog.wordpress.com/2014/04/06/noahs-castle/
