At times a talented driver undoubtedly but I've never liked Alonso. Despite his best denials I am convinced he knew exactly what the plans were between Flavio Briatore and Nelson Piquet Jr at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix on top of also being involved in the leaked Ferrari plans to McLaren during 2007.
He appears to have emerged unscathed from those controversies while Piquet Jr's F1 career ended in tatters.
Needless to say I won't rue Alonso's departure.
Sam.

True Sam he surely knew the score at Singapore '08 and strangely enough he balls up his future team mate Massa' s WDC tilt too. But Alonso was one of the few drivers to take on and beat Schumacher in his prime no mean feat. Reckon the time is right to move on but the frustrating thing is he should be a bit closer to definitely Vettel and perhaps Hamilton if his emotions rather than logic ruled his decisions over the last decade or more! Anyway here is FP2 from today. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/formula1/45190880

He's a great driver who should of won more titles. The same can be said about many F1 greats e.g your Mansells and Hakkenens. Shove any of them alongside Hamilton in that Merc and they would have more titles for sure. That's F1 though and Alonso found himself in the wrong machines time and again. He was ace in 05 and 06 beating a strong Mclaren and Schumacher Ferrari challenge.
Adios Fernando
