I’m intrigued to know where it all began for all of us.
My parents must have bought them on DVD a couple of years after they aired - maybe 2008 but possibly 2009. They bought them on the basis that we all liked the era but we had no real idea of what it would be like.
So I was well behind, but did have the perk of watching it all in 16 days straight!
Different story again for Ashes to Ashes but that’s a story for another thread!
What about you? :)

Same here. I watched them when they were first broadcast. During the first few minutes I wasn't too sure if I'd like it or not but as soon as Sam woke up in the 70s that was it. I thought.. "this looks promising...." Then as soon as he arrived at the nick I was hooked. Everything about it was marvellous. The characters, character interaction, the music, the cars. I've loved it ever since.

I first saw it from episode 1, 1st series on that night in January 2006. Heard rumours flying around about a modern day detective copper, ending up in some sort of time warp and finding himself in the 70's and a "Cortina" was involved. That was enough for me! Enjoyed it all the way through! Already being a fan of The Sweeney helped! Even the announcer just before the first episode said "And now for the first in a brand new series, we go back to the era of flares, platform shoes, strikes, Glam rock and Ford Cortinas - and we think you're going to love it! - Life on Mars!" (Or something like that!)
Couldn't wait for the 2nd series, the following year!

Gene. Why do I get the distinct impression that that's a thinly veiled order as opposed to a suggestion ... ?

I'd just hate for someone like yourself, who loves retro, to miss out on one of the most talked about series ever to grace UK screens. Ask your Mom & Dad - they'll tell you about The Sweeney. It's just measured advice Bolly, not an order

But it has made it to my amazon basket! Police drama + my favourite era should be a winner. I'm guessing you'd like me to report back! :)
