Does anyone remember that Bullseye episode with the extremely nervy question answering contestant from the mid 80's? I saw it on Challenge about 3 or so years ago and he gets rapidly more nervous (shaking) when his dart playing partner gets high scores in the dartboard round 100, 140's etc.
Looked for it on YouTube but no avail. It doesn't seem to have a repeat on Challenge as always look out for this episode so maybe it's been withdrawn.
Just surprised they let that episode go through as that contestant is clearly a little distressed towards the end of his experience with Jim and Bully. Bet his dart playing partner wasn't too impressed either.

Bet his dart playing partner wasn't too impressed either. The very, very first episode in 1981 was wiped and never shown, as it was so bad -both Jim Bowen and Producers agreed.
Though, it cost ATV a fortune in production costs - and to top it - the Prize board was more or less cleaned out, and then the Star Prize was also won too.
So, I gather the "1st Episode" they show on Challenge; isn't the first to be made, but the first to be Broadcast!
I'd have liked to see this lost episode - I would guess it was wiped.
Bully was only commissioned for 1 series originally!
How long was it on for? Well over 10 years?

Would love to see that episode too. Wonder if any other TV shows especially quiz shows and documentaries got wiped for similar reasons.

From what I gather - there are no lost episodes of Bully (luckily) apart from the initial 1981 wiped episode. Every one that was made since, was shown.
For other series, they used to do a Pilot episode before commissioning a series - quite often these would pop up in archives.
I often wonder if it was the Bullseye "pilot" that was wiped.

Might be wrong but IIRC I think both the first episodes of Boon and The Paradise Club's were pilots, you could even say The Pro's and Regan for The Sweeney were the same too. Although their initial first series for these shows followed on a few weeks/months later and most likely they would still have been shown if they hadn't faired so well.
Suppose unless they absolutely crash and burn pilots do make it to first series and it's not usually until after they've been shown their pilot status gets revealed. Again not 100% but a lot of Carlton's initial drama output after taking over from Thames was very poor and didn't last beyond one series think that's why they wanted to get their hands on Central which was making reasonably decent or decentish stuff around that time. These days they usually make a first series drama of 4-6 episodes and if it does well the next series will be commissioned. For me it doesn't quite allow things to grow and develop both character, storyline and concept wise that you'd get with a 12-14 part series like Auf Pet, Sweeney, Pro's etc.
Back to topic it's good that pretty much all of Bullseye is still intact and think Challenge have shown pretty much all of them over the years too. Didn't really take to the 2000's Dave Spikey reboot mind. This not because it was rubbish - still pretty much the same, just like most things that get brought back it just doesn't feel right for some reason.
Considering the market for these things is a 'best of' DVD for Bullseye knocking around. If not seems a bit of a missed opportunity for ITV especially with some of the comedy gold the show has too.

That's right. Many first episodes were Pilots - I remember the "A-Team" pilot, it was a 2 parter; each episode about 90minutes. It didn't feature Dirk Benedict as "Face" - everyone else in the case was in place.
"Regan" was part of the Armchair Cinema series; which I think Thames used as a vehicle to try out different things - and see if series would come out of it. Though, I think Ian Kennedy-Martin has said that it was intended as a series before "Regan"; as Euston were looking for a replacement for Special Branch (don't see why anyone had problems with that- I quite liked it!).
It's rare to see a pilot these days - usually, they would be made, and then privately shown to those who made the final decisions. I can't think of any Pilots I have seen recently.
Anyway:
A best of "Bully"? Go on - pitch that to Network. (Or Andrew Wood)
Mind you - doesn't Bully have some rights issue with it's creator and graphics designer?
Chris Roe, who designed the "Bully" logo, Font and Graphics - was an in house Graphics Designer at ATV and Central. Unusually, he brought the rights to this work (normally, it'd have been the TV companies copyright) - and to this day still owns the rights, and reaps in huge rewards from merchandise/DVD games and has to be consulted if any Re-boot takes place.
Andrew Wood - the show creator - also has some "thing" with rights too.
There's been a couple of well reported spats in various industry journals about it - between him, ITV and Chris Roe.

I reckon this will be back when the time is right. The format is simple but effective and given the right personnel to pick up the baton from where Jim and Tony left off, it will work. Just hope they don't try with Jimmy Carr or Vernon Kaye

On the whole and as I said before the Dave Spikey/Tony Green mid-2000's reboot of Bullseye wasn't necessarily that bad. It just didn't have the special elements - cheesy charm probably, that the original Jim Bowen one's had for me.
As Del says definitely do NOT want to see it brought back with hosts Ant n Dec, Vernon Kay, Jimmy Carr, Paddy McGuinness, Philip Schofield etc. or any off their ilk!
