I think Crayford did tidier jobs of the estate car conversions they did from Mercedes saloons, although the better looking convertibles to my mind were the MK1 and 2 Cortinas, Corsair and HB Vauxhall Viva.

I've never clapped eyes on a Crayford Viva They all look half decent with the roof down , not so good with it up I find. This Viva looks better than than stuff on the previous page

Not hugely keen personally, I think the cars look better in their original form.

Wonder what it’s done to the handling? I mean they weren’t designed to have no roof.

I reckon you could do a better conversion job than Crayford did these days with some of the specialists out there.

Chopping the roof off of Beetles used to be a popular thing to do.

Not hugely keen personally, I think the cars look better in their original form. I'd agree with you on that one Carty, they're not my choice at all. I think the mk2 Cortina has to be the worst of the lot, it just doesn't suit that car at all. The bottom line for me is that the factory spends countless millions developing the cars for rigidity in their standard form so for an aftermarket company to come along and lop the roof off begs the question of how much compromise is made for handling and ultimately the safety. There have always been plenty of convertibles designed at the factory, the more recent of which having steel convertible roofs, that always looked so much better and would be cheaper than having a car butchered in that manner. Sam.
