I often watched the Alas Smith and Jones show back in the day and it had some great sketches. Here's a clip from Alas Smith and Jones shown in 1986 Football lovers and Hater's will equally like this one Our very own Sam Tyler would probably read the scores out like that

Great Idea for a thread and a classic Smith & Jones sketch there, Del Boy. Thanks for posting the clip One of my favourites is the police press conference sketch from 1985 below:

Great thread, I used to watch these every week.
I remember well the second sketch in the clip that Vienna posted, the cockney coppers with Nicholas Ball, and picked up the phrase that I still use regularly of "parking my breakfast".
Sam.

There's a good section on Alas Smith & Jones in a book I highly recommend:
Nice to see it, to see it nice by Brian Viner.
All about TV and growing up in the 70s; best of its type.

During the late 1980s they did a show for LWT called 'The World According to Smith and Jones', in which they looked at the history of the world using film clips. It ran for two series but the BBC, apparently, were not happy about them working for a rival channel. I thought they were quite funny at the time, however, the show had mixed reviews.

I have the whole series of The world according to.. on good old VHS video; taped them all when it was on. Its a shame they never got back together again before Mel passed away.

Dick, I used to tape both the BBC and ITV shows regularly myself at the time as well. It's a shame that the individual series have not been released on DVD; just a best of volume a few years ago is all you can buy it seems.

Brilliant! I remember the sketch in the lift with Griff asking Mel for a cigarette, (dying for one as he's ran out) - and the subsequent bullying he gives him forcing him to sing "The Sun has got his hat on" faster and faster and many others!
