At the garage in Hale Barns today where the A40 was a week or two back, was a superb red Austin Healey 3000. Bet they are a hairy drive with a three litre straight 6, from the Westminster.
Tonight, on the way hone, not a car, but something I haven't seen for years, a rag and bone man with his horse and cart loaded with scrap metal.

Was there a bucket of manure hanging from the back and an old bloke on the front eating his sandwiches? I was out walking the dog earlier and a rather tasty, white P-reg Stag drove by, I didn't have my mobile with me so couldn't get a smudge but it did sound good. Sam.

I passed a Hillman Avenger being towed on a trailer, have't seen one for years but was driving so no pic. Was rusty as hell, particularly on the boot lid.

I mentioned a bit ago about liking Ford Consul Classics and there is one on eBay at the minute for restoration, it's maroon and grey. It was just about within budget at first but the biddings got silly so I've backed out. It's up to £3500 and needs plenty of work. There's another one which is fully restored which is on at about £7500 and it's a superb car, but, sadly, that's massively outside what I can go to.
The point is that, say, you win the project car for £3500, you would then have to spend at least that much again to restore it so it's probably better to go for the restored one.

Yes the pricing often makes you wonder.

Yes, these old classics are becoming rare and that's putting the price up. Think you're right about buying a restored one if it's going to end up costing the same, unless you enjoy the process or want it done a certain way.

This morning at Tescos car park was an amazing car, a 1920s green Bentley open tourer, the type which used to race at Brooklands and Le Mans. The guy was, presumably, on his way to a show and had called in for some stuff. Imagine using this to pop down to Tescos in, instead of a crappy little Corsa or Fiesta!

On the way home from work this afternoon I passed the local bodyshop as I usually do, most days the big doors are shut to keep the riff raff out, but today they were open and sitting proudly in the doorway was a gorgeous white '68 S-Type Jag, freshly painted and rechromed. Driving through town a few days ago I was amazed to see a beautiful '67 Alfa Romeo Duetto Spider in red, the original 'boat tail' shape as driven by Dustin Hoffman in 'The Graduate', the old boy driving it looked very pleased with himself....! I know this belongs in the other classics thread but this '68 Daimler Sovereign is on my doorstep, it's very tempting but I'm trying to bag something a bit more exotic or sporty this time round..... looks like excellent value for the asking price.... www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C1253150Villain

There must have been a show or meet somewhere today as this afternoon, driving through Handforth were two 60s Mustangs followed by a 58 Buick. All three were immaculate and looked superb
