I've got an LG multi region blu ray player & it's been tempremental since I bought it, it often ejects discs ( 'can't play disc' ) & for some reason I've had problems playing Network blu rays.

I haven't noticed slow reactions with any tv's we've had but my god my Panasonic Bluray takes a rudy age to turn on/off or eject A lot of big names seem to have disappeared from the consumer tech business. You don't really see many items from JVC, Hitachi ,Toshiba etc these days. I know that Hitachi for example deal with large industrial contracts and build things like trains and medical equipment . You should try an old valve Bush tv like we had in the 60's! Now that is a delay!

I've started the link from when he turns it on, takes an age to "warm up"

That does look old!
Ours couldn't get BBC2.
It had four push buttons for channels, which were BBC and ITV back then.

I remember bout 15 years I worked in this homeless hostel and one of the guys had a old 70s tv with push buttons, on a stand, even had the name of the tv channel over the buttons, Twas mint! I thought to myself wow I’d love this so I made him an a offer he simply couldn’t refuse And offered him a new tele and did a swap! Anyway later after moving around I moved into a very small flat, had no room for it so I drove around with it in the back of my car for ages, then eventually I thought this is crazy I need the space in my boot! So I dumped the tele at the back of my local co-op lol! I so wish I kept it now! You don’t see very many on eBay these days in good working condition!

I think we had ATV (maybe being in the Midlands) and do you remember that as a kid it was always our job to ‘turn the telly over Can’ or ‘turn the telly up Can’ and we used to crawl over and press/move the appropriate button? Then used to sit there to watch it on our knees and get told off because our head was now in the way...

I used to lie on the floor with my head propped up on my arm and our dog would always come and sleep in front of me as he knew I would lay there making a fuss of him. When it was time to change the channel or the volume my brother would always be tasked "So as not to disturb the dog while he's settled!" Sam.

Did old tv screens flicker like that Bush tv or is it just the video causing it?

Probably Bush's older stuff was top notch but since the 1980's it's all gone cheap and cheerful/nasty since they linked up with Alba etc.
As you say Del it's interesting the likes of Hitachi and Sanyo seem to have moved into un-related areas from their electrical products and electronics divisions these days. IIRC JVC used to be owned by Panasonic until 2007/08 but are now owned by Kenwood these days... true what you say you don't really see any JVC stuff these days, certainly no high profile sponsorship of Arsenal etc. like it was a few decades ago.

Did old tv screens flicker like that Bush tv or is it just the video causing it? There used to be some flicker from time to time but what you're seeing there is caused by the recording. Old TVs had an adjustable vertical and horizontal hold, the vertical hold being at 50 frames per second. There are actually only 25 images per second but if I recall correctly Sparky may have covered this in a description of the PAL signal previously. Anyhow, although the vertical scan changes 50 times per second, most video cameras record at 25 frames per second, if the scans and recordings are not perfectly in sync (which they won't be) then the individual frame snapshot on the recording will take the picture mid-scan on the TV. It is the strobe effect that can also be seen on a recording of a wheel or propeller and the individual frame snapshots captured of that wheel or propeller when played back make it appear as if the wheel or propeller are slowly rotating backwards. This video with another annoyingly patronising presenter demonstrates what I'm trying to say. Sam.
