Fair play to them if they earn from their work. So many of the artists from that 60s and 70s era didn't write a lot if at all. Rod is one such artist who has had monster hits with covers.

While playing some music earlier I had the player on random and Rod Stewart appeared. Yes he's done many covers but this is one that I only found out was a cover in recent years:
The original:
Rod's cover:
To me the original sounds more like a demo tape than a properly produced track but it is very much in line with some of the music of the time. Apparently, I don't know how true this is, but The Sutherland Brothers took a step back from their work because they were making more than enough in royalties courtesy of Rod Stewart. And who could blame them?
Sam.

Sam mentions Rod Stewart covers in the above post. One I particularly like is his and Tina Turner's version of Marvin Gaye and Kim Weston's 1960s duet 'It Takes Two.'

Got to disagree on that one Vi, not keen on Tina Turner.

Rather than start a thread on "Cover versions that were created using a time machine", forgive me for including this one. Created by a talented musician who seems to be a mean video editor too. Not sure what Stranglers purists would think though.

On the subject of Rod Stewart, I prefer his version of The First Cut is the Deepest to any of the previous versions, Cat Stevens being one.

I like P P Arnold's version. Not sure which was the original. Still on Rod Stewart, I much prefer his version of Get Back to the original one by The Beatles.

I like P P Arnold's version. Not sure which was the original. Yes Carty, the original was by recorded by P P Arnold in 1967, although Cat Stevens apparently wrote the song and sold it to her for £30. Sheryl Crow also released a version of 'The First Cut Is the Deepest' in 2003. Rod Stewart's version was the most successful in the UK. Vi

I've just found out tonight that another tune that I've always thought was original is actually a cover.
From Wikipedia:
The cover version that I've always known and still prefer:

Both sides now. Written by Joni Mitchell, and hers was, afaik, the original version, but I prefer the cover by Judy Collins.
