Controversy ahead I fear! I prefer the carpenters cover of Please Mr Postman to the original by the Beatles Who’s going to tell him? Done The original was by The Marvelettes, Cartman in 1961. 2 years before the Beatles.

Gene is right about this being the original. According to my old and out of date copy of British Hit Singles, The Marvelettes' version never made the charts or perhaps was not released in the UK, so it isn't remembered as well as The Carpenters' version of the song.

Absolutely the first song which comes to mind when anyone asks this question is:
To be honest, I think I only ever enjoy Dylan songs when they've been covered!

EXACTLY. I love that version, but the original is Also: (Slightly inexplicably I was rather obsessed with The Turtles for the summer of 2005 )

Good spot, Steve. To be fair, if Hendrix covered something ... musically, at least, there wouldn't have been any point in anyone else covering it again!

Agreed, however not sure if this is as good as the original. Performed days after the release of the original, with the composers in the audience. No one could ever accuse Jimi of lacking confidence.
