Great, dramatic version of 'I Am The Walrus' by Spooky Tooth, like the way the organ is used in particular-
I've never heard that version before and it's decent. It's got that early 70s rock feel to it.

Les Gray, ex lead singer of Mud, did a decent cover of the Mindbenders Groovy Kind of Love in early 77. I was reminded of this yesterday by hearing Phil Collins bloody awful version of it. Here it is Carty. Its from 1977 Les does a good job on it.

Got My Mind Set On You: I always thought this track was a George Harrison original but I found out the other day that it was first recorded in 1963 by James Ray. I like both versions although I will say the 80s sound of George's track hasn't aged as well. The boom splash drum sound producer Jeff Lynne used on a few other tracks is the main reason why. Still like the track though. Will have to say its a score draw between the two.
James Ray - I've Got My Mind Set On You - 1963
George Harrison - Got My Mind Set On You- 1987

Another track of my youth I thought was an original until I heard this version on Radio 2 in the late 80's and said - ahh who's this doing a cover of Soft Cell?
The Extended version of the Marc Almond version is epic, ... 'the drop' from 3.40 especially... Very fond memories of listening to this in Eric's in Liverpool in the early 80's, when I was too young to have been there!

Elton John did a decent cover of The Who's Pinball Wizard in early 76. It got played today on Radio Manchester as part of the Golden hour, for 60 glorious minutes today, driving around in the van, it was 1976 again and all the hassles and stress of today's world melted away

Steve Harleys version of Here comes the Sun from the summer of 76 is another cover I like, can't remember who did the original. Also Boney M's Sunny from about March 77, again not sure who did the original.

Also Boney M's Sunny from about March 77, again not sure who did the original. Here Comes The Sun was originally by a popular beat combo from the 60s called The Beatles, you may have heard of them? Sunny was originally by Bobby Hebb in 1966 and has been covered many times. Sam

Also Boney M's Sunny from about March 77, again not sure who did the original. Bobby Hebb wrote the original song Sunny and had a hit with it in September 1966. I think I mentioned this in an earlier post on this thread. I also prefer the Boney M cover version. Vi

Thanks Sam and Vi. Not being into the Beatles, I wouldn’t have known that. Sometimes, on the subject of covers, I think you tend to like whichever version is about at the time you’re most into music, hence my preference for 70s ones. I remember a year or two back I was in a quiz night at work and in the music round one of the questions was who sang Tragedy? I answered The Bee Gees, but the answer was given as Steps!
Had to query it, obviously!
