You don't hear mournful music like that on tv ads today, looked it up & discovered it's part of Mahler's Symphony No. 7.-

Brentford Nylons...
It's possible this advert was only restricted to those watching Thames / LWT in London. Don't remember seeing it on ATV.
Though I have only seen it once on TV, in a Rumbelows shop window while on a trip to London in the 70s!
Not 'arf!
Harry Enfield did a great spoof of this advert in 1993. Love the post-production work on this to make it look like film that's been dragged through the telecine 10 times a day. Even the subtle details such as the colour fade on the highlights (where the films goes pink), the slight sync issues and scratches.

Fluff was obviously a good sport and not upset by Enfield and Whitehouse's spoof, having appeared in the Smashie and Nicey episode where they push past him whilst he's walking with a Zimmer frame.

'The money savers', they really had imaginative tag lines back then didn't they?

I loved Smashie & Nicey End of an Era. Very funny.
Don't remember seeing the Brentford Nylons ad on in the Midlands - if Yorkshire were showing it, chances are, other areas are likely to have been.

The ads would have been from 1974, around the time he did a Saturday afternoon rock show on Radio One.

I come across this one for 'Scampi Flavoured Fries' with Phil Davis, hilarious. Wonder if it's still on Phil's CV? He he - Chalky from Quadrophenia doing a West Country accent. He did a good job to be fair.

Looking at the Brentford Nylons (and Deptford Draylons!!) advert is a joy...
It makes me wonder how there was an energy crisis in the 1970's??!! There was so much static being produced every home could have been self sufficient!!!!
I am loving these... Please keep sharing!
Anyone fancy a pint...??!!
