I like a lot of Python, I actually remember it when it first started, in 1969, my Dad got into it before me and I then started watching it too, it wasn't on at a regular time or day either, it used to get shunted around BBC1 towards the end of the day's schedules and tended to be quite late. Mum let me stay up late to watch it, I was only 9 at the time!
The odd sketch dragged on a bit too long and got boring but a good 80% of the time it was brilliant, possibly my favourite member of the team was Graham Chapman, I loved his army officer type character.
The final series, in 1974, didn't have John Cleese in it and wasn't quite as good, in fact I haven't seen this one repeated since.
Of the films, The Holy Grail is head and shoulders above the rest.

I've never seen The Life Of Brian properly all the way through, just bits of it.
I wouldnt mind watching The Holy Grail again too. I wonder if it's on YouTube.
I read a few months ago that there was a scene cut out of Life Of Brian because of pressure from people who didn't like certain inferences about the modern state of Israel.

Has anyone seen John Cleese's new TV advert for a funeral plan?
How pathetic is that? I know he's spent a bit on his divorce settlement, but you would think he would try and retain some dignity.
The ad is not even funny.

I've just watched the ad on youtube, not sure it's well judged to joke about funeral planning. Cleese was good friends with Michael Winner, I expect he told him how much cash he earned from the insurance tv ads he did.

I wonder if john Cleese has done any adverts for American TV?
I remember reading that years ago, some famous actors like Laurence Olivier did U.S. TV adverts on condition that they would not be shown on British TV.
Dirk Bogarde did one that was filmed in Rome, and it kickstarted his European film career after a famous Italian director saw the Commercial.
I've seen Dirk's advert and it was a lot more classy than Cleese's one.

Cleese also does a Specsavers advert where he tries to recreate the Fawlty Towers scene where he hits his car with a branch

I read several years ago that when Eric Idle started planning the Musical 'Spamalot' He asked other Python members if they wanted to be involved in it, but they weren't interested.
I bet they regretted it later, because it done very well indeed. Idle must have made a lot of money out of it.
I suppose John Cleese's ex would have gotten a cut out of that anyway though.
Pity him and Connie Booth didn't stay together. It's ironic that Connie made a big contribution to his success and reputation with the 'Fawlty Towers' series and she went on to work as a Therapist or something like that, whereas his later spouse ended up with millions.
