Cheers Sam, it wasn’t the New Seekers, but I didn’t know about the track you mention. Will try and check that out, could have been a cover?

I’ve actually got a copy of the New Seekers farewell album, dead cheap off eBay, just to see if that track is the one mentioned, and it doesn’t sound like it, sadly. Looks like it it will forever be a memory of my favourite ever summer......

The Motors - Airport* another of my favourites of the year Have to agree. Travolta and ON-J might have been all over the radio in the summer of 1978, but The Motors were the soundtrack to the summer for me. I remember their first appearance on TOTP and later heard the story behind it. Despite protests from the band, the producer insisted most of the band go to wardrobe and come back dressed as pilots. Nick Garvey chose a Concorde pilot's outfit, but Bram Tchaikovsky came back dressed as a Luftwaffe pilot complete with jackboots ! Although they were miming, apparently Nick kept singing "Haircut" instead of "Airport" to make Bram laugh. At 1:03 you can see Andy briefly turn round as if to say "What the --- are you two laughing about?".

Two others from that summer which I remember hearing a lot at the time, and always bring the memories alive are Life's Been Good by Joe Walsh and Because the night by The Patti Smith group

Finally, something so obscure that I guarantee no one will have heard of it. It was from the summer of 76 and it was called Oh My Jo. I have no idea who the singer was and I heard it on 208 Luxembourg quite a bit in about June/July of that year as I used to listen to Luxembourg at nights during the long balmy evenings of that amazing summer. They had a thing called a power play where they would pick a new release and play it every hour, just after the news headlines, and this was the powerplay one week. It never charted and I haven’t heard it since then. If I ever heard it again, I would instantly be transported back to my bedroom one warm evening, 42 years ago! It's not this track by Tony Burrows is it ? He had a single called "Oh My Jo" released in April 1976. I found this by Tony which, although has a different title on the video has the lyric "Oh My Jo" throughout. It sounds a bit like Manilow's "Can't Smile Without You"

Yes it is!!!! You star, it's the first time I've heard it since 76! Whey hey - glad I could help. Of course, if you really want to relive the days of hearing it on Radio Luxembourg you have to overdub some interference from an obscure Norwegian radio station right in the middle of the song. (Loved the Great 208 really - even the famous "Luxembourg fade").
