Thanks Vienna
So many of these business premises turned into housing now - certainly makes London a less interesting place

You wouldn't believe they're the same locations between the now and then shots they feel so different.
Thanks again for sharing Mr V!

Watched the first half of episode one - not sure it stands up that well. The inside scenes are so obviously in a studio which jarrs with the external scenes. It reminds me a bit of Budgie in that regard. The plot's a bit ropey too. Still, I'll probably see it through to the end.

I've now watched Series 1 Episode 1 through to the end
It makes me realise what an achievement it is that The Sweeney still really stands up 40 odd years later....
Compared with Hazell, it's the quality of the writing, the strength of the lead characters, and the great use of locations
I also really couldn't get over how the internal scenes were so obviously filmed in a studio. It really jarred every time the action changed. For example Hazell answers the door to his flat to pick up the milk bottles and then goes inside to a brightly and artificially lit studio set. Even some scenes inside Hazell's car were obviously done in a studio.
I remember quite liking this series as a teenager in the 70s but I don't think I'll bother with any more of them.
Or should I give it another chance?
Anyone here able to put up a counterargument in favour of the merits of Hazell?

It's still better than 99% of what the BBC & ITV put out currently. Is that a good enough counterargument?

Thanks Steve Austin - it's certainly a counterargument
I don't watch a lot of modern TV so will take your word for it. I do like Spiral though. And I get quite good value out of Netflix.
Does anyone actually rate Hazell though?
I had fond memories but, based on episode one, I'm not too keen on revisiting any more episodes.
On the other hand, if anyone thinks they get better as the series goes along, I might be tempted to stick with it

I think Hazell is worth persevering with, the second episode is a good one.

Thanks Arthur. That's good enough for me. I'll give episode two a watch.

As Arthur advises above LE, it's worth sticking it out a little bit more. I have always rather enjoyed the series on the whole, partly as it is filmed in the late 1970s and I like shows about private investigators/enquiry agents, although Series 2 is better I think. Vi
