I was watching it in bed last night but turned it off as I was getting tired. It was a strange film alright. I spotted it for a Hammer production right away of course. It was the last film appearence by actor Jimmy Hanley who started making British films in the thirties. The guy who played the captain Eric Porter shot to fame after his performance in the BBC series 'The Forsythe Saga' which was hugely popular on the mid sixties. Porter died fairly young I believe. Charles, Eric Porter had the lead role in Hands of the Ripper (1971), another Hammer production. A story about the daughter of Jack the Ripper. He died in 1995, aged 67. Vi

Cheers Arthur. He died in '95 did he ? Not quite as young as I thought then. I'm not sure if I've seen 'Hands Of The Ripper' I'll be watching out for it's next showing on TV.

Slightly off topic but I thought it was interesting. I did a bit of searching on Victor Maddern, who was in 'The Lost Continent', and was surprised to read on imdb that he supposedly turned down any script that had swearing in it. Then I came across a spoken word album he did, bizarrely the reverse of the sleeve shows letters of reply to Maddern who had apparently written to the BBC, IBA, various politicians & film companies concerned about content on tv, what he calls 'the industry of unhappiness' in a quote at the bottom of the sleeve. He also compiled an album of religious readings in 1979 called 'Just For Today' featuring various actors including Bernard Lee & Sidney 'Manny Bellow' Tafler- www.45worlds.com/vinyl/album/ver2972648&ei=1
He seems to have been a Mary Whitehouse type, which seems at odds with the impression he gives in the Dixon Of Dock Green outtake below where he says 'Christ', 's**t' & 'f*** Dick Green' Maybe he had a Christian conversion later in life, perhaps to atone for appearing in films like 'Blood Of The Vampire'.
I'm just watching Get Carter on the TCM channel and I remembered that actor Brian Moseley who was a devout Catholic was unsure whether to take part in the film, and felt the need to consult a priest on whether to accept the role. Fortunately his priest must have advised Brian that it was ok. As I write this Carter has just met up with him in the car park.

Arguably there were worse things happening in Coronation Street over the years than in Get Carter.
My dad was a devout Catholic & growing up he would often blame any 'bad' behaviour on 'all those horror films you watch'

I recorded the Lost Continent and just rewatched it, it must have been sometime in the late 70s when I last saw it. A Sweeney face in it, Norman Eshley from Taste of Fear, also James Cossins who was the bloke Basil thought was the hotel inspector, and Nigel Stock who was Van der Valks boss.
It's one of those films which is sort of bad and good at the same time

I notice that quite a lot of the films and TV shows shown on the T.P. channel were filmed at the tiny Merton Park Studios which was situated near Wimbledon I think. The last production ever made there before it closed down in 1967 starred John Thaw in what was an Edgar Wallace story if I remember correctly. I had always been curious about the Studios because their low budget 50s and early 60s crime films fascinated me because of the London locations. I eventually went to have a look at the studio site about eleven years ago on the Saturday before one of the forum meets. I really enjoyed the trip out, and the studio site was pretty easy to find. I believe the site has apartments on it now. Here's a link to a brief article by one of the actors who worked in quite a few films made at Merton Park. www.mycollections.me.uk/morgan.html
