I remember taking my brother's Thompson Twins & Smiths singles ( without his permission ) into school for the music lesson, the teacher had a record player in the room & she'd play them, probably as a 'treat', maybe it was the end of term. Sounds pathetic now but I suddenly became popular for a few minutes, 'wow, he's got some records', like I had a car or something

I took the Eagles album "One Of These Nights" to the school centre in Wales in 1982. It was 7 years old by then and I ended up having a scrap with another kid who was taking the gypsies over me liking the golden oldies. Thank Gawd I didn't take my '71 Moody Blues album "Every Good Boy Deserves Favour" as that was an ancient 11 years old at that point.
Gene.

There were a few tracks I liked from these two episodes. From the 19th April show (couple of days after I turned 15) I liked Blancmange & Queen. I've always liked Blancmange and their earlier hits Blind Vision & Living On The Ceiling. Queen's video for I Want To Break Free was banned by MTV, the 80's USA not being fans of anything subversive.
The second episode from April 26th was a better offering which started with The Smiths & Sandie Shaw, this time with her shoes on. Who knew that Messrs Marr & Morrisey were fans. I'm not ashamed to admit that I've always liked Against All Odds though I have never seen the film from which it came, Collins' vocal here is superb.
Nice to see Macca in the Bob Marley video (not a fan of reggae myself) before my final pick which is Echo & The Bunnymen who despite Simon Bates' best efforts, proved they were not singing live.
The rest got the FFWD treatment. Like a few of the other contributors to this thread, this was not my favourite period of popular music although there is usually at least one song to keep me interested.

It feels like this is the first time I have had two episodes to watch in a row for ages ! On Gary Davies and Peter Powell's show watching the Queen video for "I Want To Break Free" still gives me the "wow" factor - what an epic ! The Thompson Twins one for "You Take Me Up" looked good too but it was faded way too early I didn't notice there was a JK segment missing - recently the edits have been a bit clumsy and you can spot the join a mile off, but they got away with it this time. Meanwhile, back in the studio, the powers that be decided to actually "bring on the dancing girls" to try and divert attention from Nik Kershaw's one and only dance move and one of them gave me the opportunity to actualy get a rare laugh out of my teenage football mad son when I pointed out she was wearing next season's Borussia Dortmund kit !! (You had to be there ... ) In the second episode, complete with Simon Bates giving timechecks yet again on a "wow! it's live!" edition, there were quite a few highlights. I'd forgotten all about Sandie Shaw performing with the Smiths - what a trooper ! Great performance .. and I too was checking to see if she was wearing shoes ! It was good to see Duran Duran in the studio after a run of extravagant videos shown on TOTP, while the video for "One Love" by Bob Marley was apparently "celebrity packed" though I only recognized Macca & Suggs ... and Bob himself ! Julio Iglesisas & Willie Nelson always seemed an odd pairing and made uncomfortable viewing, Julio in a smart dinner suit and bow tie and Willie in jeans, T-shirt, headband and ponytails (WTF ?!) but thanks to Mr Bates, we all know now it was Nelson's wife's idea ! Hmmmm .... I know not everyone is completely enjoying this period in TOTP history, but I personally love seeing the old videos once again, cheesy or not ! And though it's a shame acts in the studio seem to be less sloppy these days, with goofs harder to find and spot, at least the presenters keep us amused with their regular howlers !

Although I'm a very biased fan of theirs has to be New Order's Thieves Like Us that's pick of this bunch from this week and glad it's been shown too as didn't know their performance got a repeat outing on TOTP with it's original airing being one of the Mike Smith ep's which are KB'd. Despite having a few Top 40 hits after this New Order's next TOTP would be over three years later with True Faith in '87 I suppose again a very different time and place musically too. Although for me very exciting things were around the corner then in 88. Suppose with this weeks line up OMD, Blancmange, Bob Marley, Queen, Duran Duran, Pointer Sisters etc. are for me okay-ish but they're either not enough to make them essential viewing or heard them to death over the years still on the whole I'm enjoying and watching these repeats still - if albeit I'm being selective with what I want from them.

I caught up with the two re-shown episodes from May 1984 just before we went on our annual school holiday boys' road trip - Liverpool this year, but it wasn't a terrific success, we'll move on from that, let's just say M6 closure So it's good to be back and catching up with stuff at home. Much a sI always try, there wasn't an awful lot to get exicted about musically in the last two shows, personally it was good to see two fantastic soul singers Jocelyn Brown and Terri Wells belting out their big chart hits, but really last week was all about the fashion ! Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark kicked it all off with a ghastly array of 80s shirts worn by the lads, with lead singer Andy McLuskey wearing something not too dissimilar to Cheltenham Town's home kit this season whilst in epsisode two The Flying Pickets took it upon themselves to perform in their pyjamas. "Automatic" by the Pointer Sisters was a great 80s pop soul song, but the video really sucks, the girls looking seriously uncomfortable their dreadful "only in 1984" outfits whilst the director uses all sorts of then "hi tech" gadgetry on them - no wonder, TOTP brought in some exotic male dancers to focus on instead of showing the whole vid all the way through ! It was also interesting to see both Duran Duran (in a "live video") and Human League (in the studio) performing now as a regular "rock" band after three years earlier getting their first successes as part of the New Romantic era and very much guitar-free. Glimpsing at the line-ups on "Popscene", we miss two shows in a row and won't catch up with 1984 now till early June that year, but IMHO there's no-one to cry over missing in action those two weeks, so I will leave you with a rare shot on OMD in full flow ...
