I was very surprised to read that some of us hadn't seen Hell Drivers. I thought that it was one of Stanley's best known films after Zulu.
Perhaps it's because compared to years ago the TV companies aren't showing as many older films or black and white ones, as they used to do. I think the BBC show some old films very early on Saturday morning, but most of us are just waking up then.
Channel 4 used to show quite a lot of older British films in the afternoon, but they don't seem to do that any more now. The new Talking Pictures Channel seems to be giving a new lease of life to many 50's films and actors that have been forgotten about.
I wonder how much the TV companies have to pay to show older films? I notice Canal (Which is a French company isn't it? ) seem to have the rights to a lot of our older films now. Maybe some films are kept off TV to help with DVD sales?
Charles.

Its a very good film, I remember seeing it for the first time on TV in the late 70s, probably about 1977. Love the pictures, very evocative of the era, and like the lorries used in it, Kew Dodges. Good cast too, also Herbert Lom in a rare sympathetic role.

Interesting thread and write up on this Gene. Certianly one I'll have to look out for in future.

Another lovely set of photos. I especially like the one of all of them on the camera car. Nice one Arthur
