The pic with Henry Cooper is very atmospheric. Both are the essence of working class men at that time.

I believe Baker helped finance Cooper's career. I googled their names & it's mentioned in both Cooper's biography & Michael Winner's autobiography that Baker attended Cooper's fights. He seems to have had his fingers in a lot of pies, as well as sports promotion & film producing he was involved in the 1972 Great Western Express Pop Festival in Lincoln. He played a boxer in 'The Good Die Young'.

You probably remember this tv ad for Holsten Pils. The Peter Cushing parts are not from a horror film but a spy thriller called 'The Man Who Finally Died' & in the scenes Cushing is having a conversation with Stanley Baker.

I used to love the Holsten Pils adverts. (I wonder if they were inspired by the Steve Martin film Dead Men Don't wear Plaid.)
I don't remember ever watching The Man Who finally Died, but at the moment there's a very good video of this film up on YouTube.
Charles.

I'm sure you're right about Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid being the inspiration behind those ads Charles. Long time since I saw that. The Man Who Finally Died isn't bad, though anything with Baker & Peter Cushing in is worth a watch.

I'll have to check out 'Hell is a city' being a resident of Manchester! Sure it has changed a lot! 👎

Baker plays a surgeon in a strange Italian comedy made in 1968 called 'La Ragazza Con La Pistola'/'Girl With A Gun'. Monica Vitti, one of Italy's biggest stars at the time, plays a Sicilian woman who travels to the UK to find a man who 'wronged' her, the film follows her adventures with various people she encounters. The film is mostly in Italian, oddly there are British actors like 'scouse git' Anthony Booth dubbed into Italian & with a dubbed British accent. Johnny 'Mike Barlow' Briggs makes a brief appearance. What's interesting about the film is that it's set in several British cities- Edinburgh, Bristol, Bath, London & Sheffield, all of which take on a different perspective under the eye of an Italian director. I didn't rate the film much so I was surprised to discover it was nominated for a best foreign language film Oscar. This site has a guide to the locations- www.reelstreets.com/index.php/component/films/?task=view&id=370&film_ref=girl_with_a_pistol&limitstart=0
