I've got the 'Ace Of Wands' dvd set but have only watched a bit of it. Preston wrote the lyrics for the theme song.
He wrote 'The Tyrant King', this was one of Euston Films first projects directed by Mike Hodges, one of the first tv shows to be filmed in colour I believe though it was originally broadcast in black & white. A children's serial that was originally intended as a film for British Transport as a London travelogue. I got the dvd when it came out but I don't think I watched all of it, lost interest after a few episodes.
I've seen 'Slayground' which he did the screenplay for, a disappointing thriller filmed in Blackpool starring Mel Smith. As I live near Blackpool it was interesting to see the locations, particularly scenes at the Pleasure Beach. The Pleasure Beach being Blackpool's amusement park, you get to see behind the scenes where they stored the rides & scenery.
Another film Preston wrote is 'Night Hair Child' ( aka 'What The Peeper Saw' ), a dodgy thriller with an incest theme starring Mark Lester & Britt Ekland.

Thanks as always Arthur
I need to get my mitts on the Ace of Wands DVD set
I had no idea Trevor Preston wrote the lyrics - there's a bit which sounds like it's Tarot card he's a bananaman, it's only latterly I realise it Tarot card he's a phenomenon, which makes a lot more sense
Those other projects you mention all sound distinctly inessential

The dvd comes with a 87 page booklet. Andrew Bown, keyboard player with Status Quo wrote & sang the theme, he was a friend of Preston's, there's a picture of them backstage at a Pink Floyd gig in the Sweeney book 'Shut It! The Inside Story Of The Sweeney'.
Here are the lyrics-
Jet white dove Snow black snake Time has turned his face From the edge of mystery Where running is no race
Ageless night Careless day Fate reaches out a hand To touch the edge of destiny A story with no end
Tarot cards Tarot the diamond man Tarot guards Wherever he can Tarot cards Tarot the diamond man Tarot guards with mystic hands
Falcon sun Leopard moon Minds searching for tomorrow Take what you can from yesterday The rest beg - steal - or borrow
Iron roads Asphalt sky Windows made from water Son of secrets - mystery's child Ruler of eight quarters
Velvet roofs Tattooed streets Patterns made from words Laughter echoes in the dark Life hovers like a bird

Tarot the diamond man
Thanks Arthur - at least now I can sing it with the right words
Those lyrics are great in the context of the song, and the TV series

Flippin 'eck Arthur - this is dark stuff (not in a lighting / exposure way)
Never heard of this - the trailer is enough to give me the creeps.
Looks a good film though.
The style of the trailer reminds me of the Get Carter cinema trailer.

I just discovered that in the last 40 or so years, I haven't got one word right - apart from "Tarot".....

It also comes over in a similar way to some of the Italian 'Giallo' films of the time. A number of '70s low budget British films have a certain 'feel' to them, they're often shot in the Autumn and Winter months with excellent cinematography (despite the low budgets), a couple of films featuring Martin Potter are like this, 'Satan's Slave' springs to mind. Whatever happened to him I wonder...? Villain
