Great series! I managed to get this on DVD a few years back, not the best of copies as it hadn't been restored, but great to view it again after so long. Thanks for posting the pics up Arthur. Sam.

Once again excellent memorabilia posted Arthur; thanks.
Remember watching this on release.
Was certainly the source of coffee machine chat. Not quite in the same way as The Sweeney, but still a worthwhile series.
Fave episode is when the Fox family recover Kenny and his car. Believe this was in Southend?
Cheers,
Stan

Yes that's my favourite episode Stan, 'Stick Or Twist' where Ray Fox & his pal scour Margate's underbelly for Kenny & his car. Great actor Derrick O'Connor, I think he carries the show. Some great dialogue in that episode including 'the sophisticated bird, she thinks Coq Au Vin is a bunk up in the back of a lorry'.
13 parts is a few too many I think, but I can imagine it was a show that you'd look forward to each week. I first saw it when it was shown on UK Gold in the 90s, it had a budget dvd release then more recently Network released it with 2 audio commentaries by Preston, Goddard & producer Barry Hanson.
The composer of The Sweeney theme Harry South plays the pianist at Ray Fox's club.
A clip from the original broadcast with an episode recap, starts at 4 min.

Agree with your views on Derrick O'Connor. Top acting throughout. Thought he was good in Out too. Like how they arrive in Margate in white Jag. Very Sweeney like in approach. Readily apparent they mean business!

Yes, Billy & Vin are happy to go home after paying the ransom & getting Kenny back but Ray is having none of it, 'swallow it?', 'they've f***ed with the wrong family pop'.

Yes and Ray just happens to have some local assistance.
A useful friend to have.
Their efforts to find the face who has Kenny's motor are interesting!

I'm currently about half way through this excellent Euston Films fourteen part series first shown between March and June 1980, shot in 1979 it features some very familiar faces - Peter Vaughan, Derrick O'Connor, Larry Lamb, Elizabeth Spriggs, Bernard Hill, Ray Winstone and many others, including three others who would later appear regularly in 'The Bill'. It even has a young Bill Nighy as a reporter and many of the extras playing local villains and cozzers in the pub scenes will be familiar. Written by Trevor Preston no less, it has a wonderful 'Sweeney' feeling throughout and the soundtrack also gives it a very 'Sweeney 2' feel in places. It also has a definite feel of that other well made Euston classic 'Out'. It's the story of a South London family with Peter Vaughan as 'King Billy' Fox, Elizabeth Spriggs as his wife Conny and their five sons who are all slightly different in character. As you'd expect with a series filmed mostly around London in '79 the locations are really good and of course the motors feature highly in most episodes, with Derrick O'Conner's character Ray tooling around in a white Series 1 XJ6 which has a 'VHK' reg' number. Thoroughly recommended if you've not seen it Villain
