It's not possible to discuss music on the 1980s without mentioning The Fall. In fact, you can't discuss music from the 1970s, the 1990s, or music from today without including The Fall. Their next album (number 31) will be released in May this year. The band put Art into music and lead where others follow. Not influenced by anything, and not constrained by commercial pressure, they deserve a thread dedicated to their music. 1n 1988, The Fall were asked to accompany a contemporary dance show by Michael Clark called I am Kuroius Oranj, themed loosely around the 300th anniversary of William of Orange's accession to the English throne. Here's a promo video of the first track on the album, called Big New Prinz. Look out for Mike - he's the one with the curly black wig and crutches

I think it was at the Brit Awards one year (late 90s I suspect). The Fall picked up an honorary kind of award, presented to them by Jo Whiley.
Mark E Smith told her to "f*** off!"....

Mark E Smith told her to "f*** off!".... Nice one Mark E Smith. Can't bloody stand Jo Whiley and her pious/hypopcritical indie-cum-pop-cum-bland shite she only propogates...

Liked her in the 90s when she was (or came across as) an indie girl.
But she drifted into being a 'lifestyle' presenter subsequently, and I can now only listen to her in small doses.
Maybe Mark E. Smith had always suspected her true colours....

Very true TTC, preferred Steve Lamacq, Lauren Leverne and Zane Lowe to Jo Whiley anyday!

Wasn't Marc Riley, late of the wonderful Mark & Lard, involved in the Fall before becoming a DJ?
