And then there's wagon wheels; people think we all remember them as being bigger because we were smaller as kids and the size hasn't changed. It's us that's got bigger! But they seemed to have shrunk too!
Wagon Wheels definately don't taste as good as years ago. I remember because my mother used to get them in regularly, and of course they were bigger. Charles.

My Aunty would usually buy us a tin of Roses or Quality Street for Christmas, have you seen the pathetic tins ( not actually a tin as they're made from plastic now of course ) on sale today? They seem about half the size compared to the tins from the 80s or earlier. I remember chocolate tools fondly as an old lady my mum knew used to give me some whenever she visited. Funnily enough I was watching the 60s film 'A Kind Of Loving' the other day & a character buys a box of Poppets, the box was enormous! It was about the size of a box of Maltesers. I'm sure chocolate bars do taste worse today & the plastic packaging doesn't compare to the paper packets of the past. I remember kids at school burning paper Mars bar wrappers using the sun & a magnifying glass...no idea why they did this. Something else I saw recently was an episode of Steptoe And Son where Harold produces a box of Liquorice Allsorts & eats them as if they were a great delicacy. Sweets were more of a treat item in the past & you looked forward to them. I don't eat a lot of chocolate or biscuits but I do think that the quality of chocolate is noticeably lower. Taking Kit Kats as an example, I'm sure the chocolate was more brittle & the fingers had more of a snap to them when you broke them.

The plastics tins of quality street and roses are definately smaller and i prefer the old tins but i suppose its cheaper to do plastic.
The best way to get a good 'snap' is to keep your chocolate in the fridge. Hate warm chocolate that's stuck to the wrapper.
I always had a box of maltesers for my birthday when i was a kid. You knew what it was because they moved about in the box. Does anyone still throw one in the air to try to catch in their mouth, i used to get in trouble for that.
The luxury chocolates though were milk tray, especially if it was two layers, and the sucessful advert with the milk tray man was great.

Chocolate bars do seem smaller than they were a few years ago, but then I suppose 40 years later with more focus on healthy eating and companies eager to make bigger profits we can't really expect things to be the same as they were. I can't really remember what they tested like back then either Vi

Creme Eggs are deffo smaller, they used to be more egg shaped, they're rounder today. Just thought, maybe things seem smaller because our hands have grown?

Two pages already of talk about chocolate. I remember as a kid that there was a delicious wonderous chocolate bar called Fry's Five Centre. It had five different coloured fillings ! My Nanna would sometimes buy them. Being very young the name confused me. My Mum once told me that I had headed off down the milk bar (local corner shop in English 'speak') with 5 cents expecting to be able to buy one. Nowadays I quite fancy a cherry ripe with dark chocolate. Or maybe fruit and nut in chocolate. Taste definitely changes as you get older. When I was a kid I liked the white milky chocolate. Now I think the white milk chocolate tastes like soap ! Nowadays I quite fancy a cherry ripe with dark chocolate or maybe fruit and nut in chocolate. Hmm I've said that already but worth saying twice. Nothing in the cupboard at the moment unfortunately.

.............. I remember kids at school burning paper Mars bar wrappers using the sun & a magnifying glass...no idea why they did this. Do you remember kids putting Twistie and chip packets (crisps in English 'speak') in the oven ? They would shrink down very tiny but still retain their shape and colour. We used to make jewellery out of them.

There's one of those hiding in the picture of chocolate bars I put up Batgirl, never had one as I was (and am still not) a fan of dark chocolate. It's that sweet, sweet milk chocolate for me
