Just rewatched it last night on Talking Pictures and a quick question. When was it filmed? The release date is 1971, which would suggest 1970, near the end, when the police turn up, one of their cars is a mark 3 Cortina which only came out in October 1970

Really good clip Arthur, enjoyed that. Nice to see Villain getting some appreciation on the show. I assume KIOS is one of the DAB stations?
I read a book on Richard Burton's life about eight years ago. (It must have been nearly four inches thick.) Apparently Burton and his wife Liz Taylor threw quite a few big parties at a pub in The Old Kent Road in London at the time he made the film. As we we know Burton was a massive drinker, but he eventually cut down on his intake later on. He still drank occasonally though and when he did he really went to town on it. John Hurt paid him a visit just before Burton died, and they both went on a bender but next morning Burton never woke up.

Thanks Charles. You can listen to KLOS online, it's based in Los Angles where Jones lives. I've only ever watched these clips on youtube as Jones has some interesting guests.

Yes Dirty, a pair of characters. Jones mentions some actors being dubbed. I've not seen Villain for a while so I found a copy to watch online, practically all the actors were dubbed, not just the odd one like 'Get Carter' but most of them, it was unwatchable. Hard to believe that they thought the accents were too thick for an American audience so maybe there was another reason. Has anyone else seen this dubbed version If this is the version itunes customers are getting they're being robbed.

Don't know of any specifically 'dubbed' versions doing the rounds but the DVD version I have and the one Talking Pictures shows seems to have fairly natural voices in it. Yes there's a bit of ADR/dubbing here/there but nothing massively unnatural... some early Professionals and other 1970's TV shows sound more dubbed in my opinion.
For me the worst example of a dubbed film was the American-ised dubbed dialogue in Mad Max, I prefer the Fair Dinkum Aussie version anyday.

The odd voice dubbed is tolerable, eg. the start of Get Carter, but if it's throughout the film it can kill it stone dead, the exception being if it's a foreign language film. Not sure where the copy of Villain I saw came from but all the voices bar Burton & a couple of other minor characters were horribly dubbed- McShane, Welland, Davenport, Sinden, Selby, McKenna, Ackland, Henney, Hallam, the lot...even Terry Leather/Kenny Jarvis. Diabolical liberty. The Americans obviously have a thing about hearing film & tv in their own accent, even replacing David Attenborough's narration on his celebrated documentaries, it's insular & xenophopic to replace Aussie or Brit accents, besides how are they ever going to learn how to speak proper like what we do?

I'll have to try and catch that version Art just to see how much of a hatchet job they've made with the dubbing on it...
