Looks like the writers of Boon had been watching 'Minder' for inspiration, the last couple of episodes, one about a washed up footballer & last night's episode about a young Indian woman & her feuding family were very similar to 'All About Scorin Innit?' & 'The Bengal Tiger'.

I'm still slowly getting through the first series and enjoying it too I vaguely remember those episodes you mentioned Arthur. Last nights episode was GlassHouse People.

I noticed in Northwest passage to Acocks Green that chief superintendent Grant (T P McKenna)from Night Out is in it. I also noticed in Ken's porta cabin when he's having his egg and soldiers that he has a Dart board in there....must be the one he stole from the Hut in Germany lol

'That's your bail money up the spout kid'. I'd not thought about the dartboard though Ken's is one of those cheap cardboard ones unlike Moxey's prized bristle board.
This sounds stupid but I've really felt sorry for Ken Boon, he looks like a defeated man & whilst watching you can't help thinking about Michael Elphick himself, knowing his struggles with alcoholism.

Not at all Arthur, I feel very much the same. Ken is a defeated man especially where his market garden is concerned and I did feel sorry or him as he was a kind hearted man and would do anything to help people out. You just want him to do well in life but something always seems to go wrong. Sometimes Harry is not much help either in situations. It was a shame he struggled with Alcoholism. Ken always seemed to like a drink or two throughout the series and that's one of the reasons I think that Michael was rather like Ken boon in reality.

Billy Hamon ( Barry in The Sweeney ep 'Big Spender' ) wrote yesterday's episode of Boon & Ray Winstone appears, complete with a knuckle duster, an unusual sight on tv, I'm not sure they'd allow one to be shown today. There was some censorship in this episode ( boobs, pages of a girly mag & sex toys optically fogged ), a now very dated story about the vice squad & 'blue movies'. It also has an unlikely romance between Boon & the lovely Amanda Burton.

I know the episode Arthur, from series 2 It's called A ride on the wildside. I know the scene with Ray Winstone, in the toilets where he swings for Ken but hits the wall with the Knuckle Duster and smashes the tiles. Ken knocks him to the ground with the line " Not exactly Marvin Hagler are we ?" Great episode that one also starring Peter Blake as Drinkwater the porn Merchant and also a young Tricia Penrose who was a regular in Heartbeat.
This episode was the first appearance of Margaret Daly (Amanda Burton) too.
I haven't seen it on Telly for a while but I have got an old recording of it as the DVD version has been edited because of the music that was originally in it. Instead of Iggy Pop, Real Wild Child we got Ace of Spades instead. I haven't noticed those other censored bits before though. The DVD version is somewhat spoiled because of that editing as there is also a small section cut out where Ken is searching for Lindy.
One of my Favourites from Series 2.

So Margaret Daly became Boon's regular love interest? He was punching above his weight there!
I didn't notice the music, odd how there's such a fuss over music rights in tv shows. The censorship will have been done by Drama so it's safe to be shown in the morning/afternoon, I've seen the same optical fogging on other shows including an episode of 'Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads' where, believe it or not, a V sign was censored!

I've watched a few of Boon's on the PVR recently, it's been an enjoyable enough time filler type programme to watch but can't say I've liked it enough to want to buy/own it. Does have that Auf Pet/Central feel to it as people have mentioned and I also noticed The Sweeney's very own Ted Childs was one of the executive producers on the episodes I've seen and nice to see some Brum/West Midlands from the late 80's/early 90's too.

Margaret returns in the last episode of the series I think. She is then a regular in Series 3, Boon-Daly Investigations or BDI as they call it. Ken Didn't seem to have much luck at all with Margaret or any other Women as I remember
