Something in the media which gets on my nerves is the lazy, short hand stereotyping use of "like something from the '70" to describe something felt to be a bit crappy.
As if everything before 1/1/70 and after 31/12/79 was somehow wonderful. Lots and lots of stuff and things about and from the 70s were absolutely brilliant. Stop it. Now. Or else.

Couldn't agree more Cartman. It is irritating and extremely lazy.

Spot on Cartman, it is always used in a derogatory manner.
I've used the line myself but when I've used it, it has been with affection and a sense of nostalgia.
Sam.

I take it you recently watched It Was Alright In The 70's ? The way this show is formatted makes me think it's done purely to satisfy the P.C needs of today. It suits the agenda. Would any of this content find its way onto our screens otherwise ? I bet no way Jose We can see through this quite easily but younger viewers born from the 80's onwards will undoubtedly believe the programs somewhat skewed view of life in 1970's Britain. Even though the above annoys I still watched it.

No, Del, I didn't, it would have annoyed me. Theres stuff on now that the PC brigade of the future will be grumbling about in their usual, smug, self satisfied way in about 2040.
I feel that the reason why the 70s get criticised in the mainstream media is that it is one of the only two eras in this country's history when the political and business elite didnt get all their own way. (the other one was just after the war when the NHS was set up) The media, being the elite's ministry of information, put out this constant drip feed of propaganda trying to convince everyone that it was all bad, look at how great life now is.
Us that were there know differently

Context is all important when talking about history & the media isn't that concerned about putting things in context, leaving people with a distorted & often downright untrue picture of what took place & why. Notice at the end of 'It Was Alright' they have someone saying something like 'it wasn't all bad you know', this is what the programme makers call 'balance'. All media reports this way from the local paper upwards.

The propaganda machine which is the media is at it again with the tired old "drag us back to the 70s" cliché again, in response to Labour's manifesto. I'm not going to get political, but it is just so lazy, clichéd, stereotypical and annoying.
Do the media not know that, out here, in the real world away from the little bubble they inhabit, the 70s have a big following and loads of us, myself at the front of the queue, would LOVE to go back to the 70s. Beer 14p a pint, affordable housing, great TV, fantastic music, you could go to your local Ford dealer and order a Mark 3 Cortina 2.0GXL....
The worst culprit is, predictably, the Daily Mail, or the Volkshier Beobachter as I sometimes call it (google it!)

Well said Cartman. A lot of people these days are becoming more aware of media distortions.
One of the things that annoy me about these retrospective programmes is that lt seems be the usual smart arses, and people who seem to know S.F.A passing judgement.

Certainly there's a large number of people who have bad memories of the 70s under Labour & they view Corbyn as a throwback to that period. People like my Aunty, she died last year but she was a Daily Mail reader & not a fan of Labour.
Being born in 71 I can't comment on how life was in the 70s, all I know is that most of the tv, film, music, etc. that interests me was created in the 70s, but there's bugger all about the current age that appeals to me.

Life in the 70s for most people was OK, I remember it well, born in 1960 so the best time ever to be a teenager!
