I love watching 60's music videos because you get to see legends like the Stones at their best. There is loads of good 60's stuff out there, but it is rather annoying that we don't often see this stuff on the box. I would love to see these videos restored using the great modern technology we have. Look at what Network managed to do with the Sweeney and The Professionals picture and sound tracks. We live in hope To kick thing off here's The Rolling Stones on TOTP 1965 Get Off Of My Cloud Lets Spend The Night Together Recorded in August and November, 1966. This Video has had the original poor quality soundtrack overdubbed with the stereo recording by the You Tube poster :clap2:. Organ: Brian Jones. Lead & backing vocals: Mick Jagger. Drums: Charlie Watts. Piano: Jack Nitzsche. Electric guitar, bass, & backing vocals: Keith Richards. It is way better than the damaged old soundtrack from the video tape. What do you think?

The stereo edit's I found on You Tube are Fab The work involved in matching the video playback speed to the CD soundtrack is quite involved. Hats of to the guys who made these. The notes on the posters video are as follows: The Stereo Edit means more bass, wider sound. For this edit I used the nice and smooth version from the sacd 80012 from ABKCO, which has the acoustic guitar on both channels, and the original mono song centered. The absolute opposite is the version on "Hot Rocks 1" [London 820 141-2], that has the mono song at the left and a "cruel" acoustic guitar added at the right channel. Worst version ever, the engineers even had the "guts" to give it a fade in. Oh boy... But, it can be done worse: what about the latest release on "Grrr!"? Mono... grrr...
Yeah, let's all return to mono. Not. A couple more Stereo edits for you(I CAN'T GET NO) SATISFACTION Recorded May 10-13, 1965
The Rolling Stones - Not Fade Away - enhanced sound Harmonica: Brian Jones. Guitars: Brian Jones & Keith Richards. Percussion: Brian Jones & Mick Jagger. Lead vocals: Mick Jagger. Bass: Bill Wyman. Drums: Charlie Watts.

Here's a comparison of the original and modified stereo edits
The Rolling Stones - Under My Thumb 1966 Original Soundtrack
The Rolling Stones - Under My Thumb 1966 Stereo edit taken from an 8 track tape !
Even though this one has been made for headphones apparently, the difference is amazing. Listen to Wyman's Bass!!

Love the Stones, especially the Brian Jones period, a lot of folk still don't realise (or accept) that he started the band himself and Mick and Keith joined later on. It often feels as though he's been all but airbrushed from their history which is a crying shame. Long before Mick & Keef made it fashionable, it was Brian who was the real Rock Dandy and the driving force which got the band established. Although it's true to say that towards the end he failed to turn up at recording sessions due to self inflicted bad habits, he did much more in the studio on 'Beggars Banquet' than some would have us beleive and 'Let It Bleed' which was released after he died contains several of his distinctive contributions if you listen closely enough (parts of the this album were actually recorded in late '68 / early '69 while Brian was still alive).
Their '60s output still sounds fresh today, just listen to the first three seconds of 'Jumping Jack Flash' when it's played on the radio, I defy anyone not to feel 'alive' when Keith's guitar riff starts. The song itslef was written by Brian and Bill Wyman during a rehearsal session while they were waiting for Mick and Keith to turn up, Brian came up with the main riff and it was some time before Mick added his lyrics.
My Mum used to go to see them live in the early days when they played in Richmond, she had a bit of a thing for Brian Jones apparently and would stand right at the front giving him the eye! Because of this I've always felt a close connection to the band, and the first record I ever owned was a cassette tape of 'Big Hits - High Tide & Green Grass' from 1966, given to me by my Mum to cheer me up when I was off school with the chickenpox!

Good insight into the Stones Villain. I agree with you regarding Brian Jones. I'm reading Keith Richards Autobiography "Life " at the moment and he tells it like it is. He says that Brian and Pianist Stuart Lancaster were the pair responsible for getting the band together. Keith auditioned to Stuart in a soho pub and got into the band.

This song was sampled and forms the basis to "Bitter Sweet Symphony" by The Verve, when based on this version of "The Last Time" by The Andrew Oldham Orchestra (in case you didn't already know)

Ahh yes I remember this from the 90's. The upshot of the issue (caused by a record company not doing its homework I think) was that The Verve record had to be credited to Jagger and Richards.
