Wow. Can't believe that's been over 30 years ago. Where has the time gone !

It's now a shade under 35 years from this legendary gig. Just watched the famous Queen set for the first time in many years. I was blown away by the sheer energy radiating from the crowd. The band simply nailed it with this performance ! The thing that makes it all the better is and I'm sure many would agree that this performance absolutely looks and sound ace ,so how good must it of been to be there watching it at Wembley. One thing to remember about the Queen performance at that time Del was they had no way of re-mastering or enhancing the A/V experience for viewers/listeners back in '85 so they did get it all nailed on that day which can't have been easy for them given the occasion, the other (fairly large at the time) acts on that day as well as well as the usual band dynamics which perhaps contribute to a poor performance.
Don't really like or hate/indifferent to Queen generally but they were the top dogs that day.

Don't really like or hate/indifferent to Queen generally but they were the top dogs that day. They could remaster video footage and sound back then to some extent - what they could achieve was nowhere near what can be achieved these days. All they could do is tweak the colours, remove any noise and sharpen it all up.
The sound was first class; that would have been the BBC's own mix for TV and simulcast on Radio
I am not the hugest of "Queen" fans, but they certainly stole the show that day. They nailed it. Outstanding performance. Freddie had the audience eating out of his hands. Such a lost talent.

I definitely agree it should be remastered! was watching it again recently and never tire of watching it! All my favourite 80’s bands. I remember watching it back then as clear as crystal! on tv, the only regret was that I wished I could of been there.. I agree Freddie Mercury had the audience in his hand and probably stole the show! but apart from this I thought U2 when they sung bad’ was the best bit! and came in a close second! Twas a Great instrumental version, and a funny story behind it, because apparently Bono give the band no choice and forced them to keep going with it, after he decided to pull this Gal from the crowd close to the stage who was getting squashed! It may have been legit, but also a bit on Bono’s part to steel the show! Either way the band were oblivious to his actions and due to the extended version of Bad’ they ran out of time and were unable to perform their hit Pride’ the remaining band members were furious and wanted to fire him, but in the end the stunt put the group in the limelight and probably helped to project them to where they are today. I think some where on YouTube there’s a clip of a interview with the two girls he pulled from the crowd, in about 2009, both have stood the test of time and are still looking as cute as ever! Lol

As a footnote on the Live Aid comments I posted earlier (yep I'm going senile)...
I forgot to mention that the BBC production team behind "Live Aid" was those who produced 'Old Grey Whistle Test' / 'Rock Goes to College' and 'In Concert'. Many of those live shows were simulcast - recorded for TV, and recorded in stereo for broadcast on FM Radio at the same time.
In a live situation, this would have been done on the fly - so those mixing the sound for TV and Radio would have mixed it realtime.
Quite a tour de-force for something like Live Aid.
I was always interested how they did it, and grew the nuts to ask the BBC OB unit at Leeds Festival if I could have a nose round their setup. They take the feeds from each mic on the stage and recorded each input to a 32 track multi-track tape machine - and just needed to keep and eye on levels. This was then mixed to a stereo recording (as they do with an album/single) at a later date.
I have cassettes full of "Rock Goes to College" and "Whistle Test on the Road" concerts my Dad recorded; and the quality of them (despite them being on old tapes) is remarkable.
I'd love to see a remastered Live Aid - using todays technology. Be good in surround (with the crowd etc).

Maybe they’ll do it for the 50th Anniversary! If it’s anything like the time it’s taking to do the Sweeney lol!
