I've signed it too.
Why ruin a successful business and raze historic buildings to replace with ugly modern characterless developments? If it ain't broke don't fix it!

Another troubling effect of pub closures is the health aspect. People are buying comparatively ( relative to pub prices ) cheap booze from the supermarket & Bargain Booze & drinking at home. The social aspect of drinking is being rapidly replaced by sitting in front of the tv with bottles of wine, cans/bottles of beer & bottles of whisky. Pubs help to control people's drinking to a great extent by means of their prices & standard measures, along with pub etiquette. No such controls exist in our own homes.

Totally agree, been in the Aber many times since the 70s. Manchester is fast becoming a bland, charachterless, ugly, corporatized place full of horrible glass boxes. I actually think its uglier now than it was before the IRA bomb went off in 96

In case it's of interest to readers of this thread, The One Show today was mostly concerned with pub closures, it featured publicans & locals who have saved or are in the process of saving their pub from developers.

Signed it,wasn't it featured in The Hairy Bikers Pubs That Built Britain? A meet up in Manchester would be great!

This was mentioned on North West TV News last night on the BBC and an artists impression of the new glass box was on. Its horrible. It will get passed, Manchester City Council are now in the pockets of property developers

This proposed development has reared its ugly head again on BBC North West Tonight's site there is an impression of it and its even worse than I thought it was going to be, it really is utterly horrific.
Not just the Abercrombie (which was there at the time of the Peterloo massacre in 1819) but also a synagogue, where Matt Busby did a talk about air travel and its role in football, not long before the Munich air tragedy and Bootle Street Police Station are threatened by it.
Buildings which played a big part in Manchesters history are under threat by two hideous monstrosities which are completely out of scale with the surrounding area. This MUST be thrown out

It does look like it's just been dropped there doesn't it? Of course Ryan Giggs & Gary Neville won't be looking at it, they're tucked away in a leafy part of Cheshire.
