I will look out for this one, sounds a good series. I have been reading John Mill's autobiography recently, and he mentions Anthony Quayle. He said Quayle was offered a major part in Ben Hur in 1958 by the director, but even though he wanted to do it desperately, he turned it down, so he could honour a promise to a small theatre company in order to help them out. Must have been a decent bloke.

I bought the boxset off of network in one of their many sales last year but have only watched one or two episodes. So far I like it and think it's worth getting.

I have had this boxed set nearly 10 years now and enjoy it too. The film fully cleaned up is a great time travel of 1968/69 London and even at least one Sweeney location can be spotted, in one episode, I think it was the first one in the series, with the baddies using a white S type Jaguar. The location is the "Night Out" pub the Warrington Arms! Quick flash and I could recognise those famous pillars! I believe the building used for Adam Stranges flat was/is in Maida Vale. Some great locations (some used near Elstree studios) and the fashions and 60's motors take you back too.
Some episodes were filmed in colder weather and another I remember (features Peter Vaughan as the chief villain who is a people trafficker!) is even relevant today about illegal immigrants in the story line.
A young sideboarded Martin Shaw also stars in another, as an Eastern European student union leader when Strange is investigating the murder of the previous leader. Look out in that one for John Challis (OFAH Boycie or The Sweeney's Skef Warren), sans moustache and blink and you miss it, he just has a walk on part as a soldier in the unspecified Eastern European country!
My box set also has an interview with Martin Shaw on it, who speaks very highly of Anthony Quayle too. It does sound as though he was a decent man to work with. Another point to note - the series was made in exactly the era that Martin Shaw's recent series "George Gently" is also set in as period piece! ;-)

This is a photo I took of Adam Strange's house on a trip to London a couple of years ago. The London sights are different when you're a TV geek
