I was talking to the wife briefly, about the Beatles, earlier this afternoon. ( She's not a fan. Donnie Osmond and David Cassidy were her scene.) I was telling her how important it was to their career development, when they went to Hamburg. The lads had to work so hard there, that they really learned to play their instruments properly, and sing better too. Also they met the German girl, Astrid who had a such big impact on their early hairstyles and dress sense. Of course all this is well known. Funny to think, if not for going to Hamburg, and also meeting Brian Epstein, they might not have made it. I've been to quite a few German cities, but not to Hamburg yet. I'll have remedy that some time. I agree Charles, it's where they learned/honed their stage craft. Can you imagine letting your 16 year old go off to Hamburg for months now? If you can keep a load of dockers entertained from dusk to midnight at a tender age, you've got to be mentally strong. It's not by any coincidence that todays "stars" by comparison cannot handle the pressures of fame.

JS- You've been on the Beatles tour then like I did recently back in December! Enjoyed mystery tour via coach they organise from Albert Dock and some fascinating legends and facts came up. Yes Gerry, I have been on the Mystery Tour coach trip and thoroughly enjoyed it. Well worth a go for anyone who hasn't been on it as there are loads of points of interest and a good commentary with interesting facts.

I did the Mystery Tour Coach Trip back in the early 90's and thoroughly enjoyed it, but in October 2014 (when I took the photo of Mimi's house) we booked a private taxi for the morning that do specific tours of all the Beatles haunts, stopping off for you to get photos and explore. Not cheap but it was a FAB experience.

Good stuff Mr Miller Now, let's have one of my favourite Beatles' singles from 1968... 50 years ago today (8 September 1968), the "Hey Jude" film had its world premiere on Frost On Saturday, presented by David Frost. The clip had been recorded four days earlier at Twickenham Film Studios, and to make it seem as though The Beatles were on the programme, David Frost visited Twickenham on this day to record an introduction. A 36-piece orchestra was also assembled, the members wearing white tuxedos, and 300 extras were brought in for the finale. "Beautiful. Absolute poetry. Welcome back to part three, as you can see, with the greatest tea-room orchestra in the world. Right? Beautiful, beautiful. Absolutely, beautiful. As you can see, making their first audience appearance for over a year, ladies and gentlemen, The Beatles!"

I’ve finally finished the seven hour documentary that is… Get Back (Disney Plus)Clearly not everyone is going to have the inclination to watch seven hours of the Beatles but as a music fan more than a Beatles fan I was, in the main, captivated Context is all as we eavesdrop on the group in something of a crisis yet, for all the bad vibes, when this four get together there be magic as they variously chat, smoke, drink tea, jam and muck about We won’t see their like again
