Apparently there were problems getting permission to film in a cemetary at night so Walpole Park in Ealing was used as it had large wrought iron gates and a broad path beyond where the monument could be set up.

Makes sense and i do happen to know that other locations around Ealing were used around that time. Slow Bus To Chingford springs to mind.

Yes West London was popular for locations during the earlier series. As one door closes where the Trotters catch a butterfly was filmed in Ravenscourt Park. Strained Relations when Grandad's funeral takes place was filmed in Hammersmith Cemetery near Barons Court. The Golden Lotus in Yellow Peril was in Hanwell.

I was watching two of the early episodes last night from series two. I've never enjoyed it more. David Jason gave a fantastic performance. There's just no way they could do something a fraction as good these days. Brilliant show. I didn't it appreciate as much as I should have done years ago.
Charles.
