The Clashβs 1st albumBeggarβs Banquet β Rolling Stones Copperhead Road β Steve Earle In the City β The Jam Never Mind the b***ocks β Sex Pistols The Clash, "The Clash" is a brilliant album - got to agree with you there Wayne. "Janie Jones" is a fantastic way to start your musical career.

1. Berserker - Gary Numan (1984) First album I ever bought - it was on chrome cassette. Absolutely amazing noises on this, with the best ballad he has ever written tagged on the end.
2. Hotel Byblos - Various (2001) I love a bit of French lounge music. Hotel Byblos has been the premier decadent St Tropez hangout for of the likes of Jagger and Bardot since the early Sixties and this is a compilation of the coolest bossanova naughtiness ever to have been played in its nightclub.
3. Achtung, Baby! - U2 (1991) I couldn't stand U2 in the Eighties. Then they went away and realised that being the biggest band in the world didn't mean being the most earnest and tiresome. Truly innovative stuff, amazing production, cracking tunes and the best tour ever.
4. The Essential Inspector Morse - Barrington Pheloung (1995) Contains the last and best version of the Morse theme with real French horns rather than a Bontempi organ and some of the best operatic pieces that Morse indulged himself with.
5. Lord of the Rings OST - Howard Shore (2003) So many film soundtracks would make it onto a longer list, but I'll take the three movie set of LOTR because it is amazing.

Interesting choices Morse. I like Achtung Baby its a great effort and i probably favour it over The Joshua Tree. I must admit i'm not familiar with French Lounge music so i went over to youtube to check some out I found this and i like it. You could see Regan listening to it in his flat with a Bird.

That's a favourite, Del Boy. And what an album cover, too!

I listen to music because I like it, and what the lead singer of the band goes and does once the music stops is his business. BTW, I've replaced the Bob Marley record from my top 5 with "Tubular Bells", for this week at least.

I've learned to love the earlier stuff, Windy. And I don't hold with the Bono hatred that's become fashionable of late. He's one of the wittiest men in pop. Ever. To save one life is heroic, to help save hundreds of thousands is extraordinary. And he's the best showman since Freddie Mercury.

I don't think you can enjoy the music if you don't like the singer but that's just me. I like Oasis for example but a lot of people don't because they think Liam is a twat, which he probably is but I don't whereas I'm just not a fan of Bono. I used to like U2 circa Zooropa but that whole thing with the hat kinda finished it.
Wouldn't it be a bore if we all liked the same thing.

Obviously, if activities break the law, then that changes things. As it does in all walks of life.
