Great pictures. Berwick is a place I've never been to and must get round to visiting one day. The North East is the one part of the country I've never really been to, I had to go to Middlesbrough twice with work and that's the only time I've been there, that and Haltwhistle once.

No problem Gene, thanks for posting them The site of the Playhouse Cinema we see Bob trying to get into in an earlier scene in that sequence, is behind the fenced off area you can see to the left as you look through the arch of the walls. It was knocked down some years ago and the land lay derelict but is now the site of a Premier Inn which is under construction. Here is a picture of it looking a little sorry for itself shortly before demolition, you can see the arch on the left:

Over the weekend I have been sent a couple of wonderful pictures by Steve Austin who found himself on the trail of Hughie McClaren, just as Bob found himself looking for Terry 46 years ago... Thanks for sending them in Steve The lovely Berwick Upon Tweed, along Quay Walls, looking towards Sandgate. Then: Now: Down by the Tweed along Quay Walls. Then: Now: Gene. Great pictures, especially as we lived in Coldingham, a small village just up the road near Eyemouth. My dad was a director at an animal feed mill called Border Feeds on the docks in Berwick between 65 and 69. Swimming in the sea as a kid there was bloody cold!

Great pictures, especially as we lived in Coldingham, a small village just up the road near Eyemouth. My dad was a director at an animal feed mill called Border Feeds on the docks in Berwick between 65 and 69. Swimming in the sea as a kid there was bloody cold! Know Eyemouth well, had relatives there. Yes, the sea is cold even in Summer but you're no true Berwicker if you don't get in On a related note, does anyone know the locations for the Likely Lads Christmas Special such as the driving test centre, Terry's driving test route, The Black Horse (where Bob reverses into the Wolesley), the yard where Terry worked & the house where the fancy dress party was? Now that we've covered most of the film locations, I'd really like to know where these are. Thanks.

Fascinating article Arthur, and I think it is very accurate.

Thanks for posting this Arthur, it seems the most logical explanation but is a shame nonetheless.

Thank you for putting up this article Arthur. It was really interesting. Now we can understand better why James Bolam cut ties with Bewes.
Sadly Bewes comes over as a bit of a pain in the arse in real life. Its a pity his career wasn't a bit more successful after The Likely Lads finished. He might have been able to put the rift behind him then instead of brooding over it for the rest of his life.
Charles.

Yes, that was very interesting and insightful. I don't recollect Bewes in anything after the Likely Lads ended. In fact, I only ever remember him in two or three other things in total. He was on with Basil Brush for a bit, and was in a series called Dear Mother, Love Albert, about 1969/70 ish from memory, never seen it since it was first shown and only vaguely remember it. Finally, he was in Billy Liar with Tom Courtney in 63.
