With this area Cartman its 50-50. Some of it was prime land and they done a good job developing it and creating employment. However now you're getting greed setting in and its being over developed . For example they closed a slip road from the A13 and built on that !! It would be better to leave what's left alone as you say.

Often happens Del when developers are given too much free rein. I've just got back from a week in Dorset, at Swanage, and the area is lovely, with the exception of Sandbanks, which I thought was tacky and vulgar, a kind of gated community for the nouveau riche. Suspect that this is what happened with Docklands.

Love these photos Sam. Thank's for sharing them with us. I've not seen them all yet, but I've bookmarked the page so I can come back and browse again.

An ex-riverside warehouse converted to flats in Wapping for instance is about £500,000. In the early 80's they were just an empty shell of a building that was not worth diddly squat.

I can't get any of the links to work now but I was driving around that area in an artic regularly back in the late 80's. I've not been around there for a couple of years now but it was changing almost weekly as I remember; must admit I don't miss it though.

Dick, I've just checked the links and they're all working okay for me. They should be opening into a new tab or new window so have you got pop-ups disabled?
It was the late 80's that I first started going there but now it is almost a daily trek for me on public transport. I have driven it of an evening and early morning when I've done a night-shift but otherwise avoid the roads like the plague. I enjoy driving but not that for a commute.
Sam.

Nice one, Sam, enjoyed looking through these, and will revisit as there are a lot of pages. It's an era I remember well, living up in London as I did around then.
