Definitely a bit naff, IMO.
Why on earth didn't they make M&W properly funny?
Frankly its a bit like when M&W went to ITV in 78, they seemed to have lost their edge and were just re-hashing old jokes.
When they shortened their show to 30 mins in the early 80s it improved.
Anyway, it was a missed opportunity to make a classic and turned out a turkey!

It had the potential to be an OK episode, the story about the scientist and the missing medicine, but it just got silly, to quote Graham Chapman in Monty Python.
The episode is in my bottom 3 of least favourites tieing with Bad Apple and Night Out

The episode is in my bottom 3 of least favourites tieing with Bad Apple and Night Out I don't get the dislike of Bad Apple. It's far more believable than say, Loving Arms (where was this factory that Fred Booth made the guns at and how did Arty Ward find him? The scenes with his wife are pretty lame) and Visiting Fireman which has been discussed lately. The Bigger They Are & Golden Boy are other episodes I think are not as good as Bad Apple. Max Deller is just not believable, certainly wouldn't scare me. Still, we can't all like the same thing.

What do others think of the M&W Christmas special that JT and DW went on? I wasn't around for the original broadcast and watched it on the DVD extras. I thought ok.

Think that was the 76 show.
Long time since I’ve seen it, used to pull in huge audiences.

I think that fifth picture (in the Hearts and Minds location thread) with the red car is a Daf 33. Posts moved from location report thread to general episode dissection thread. GH.

For me, as for many other fans of The Sweeney, this is simply the worst episode of the entire series, isn't it I think so.
