It's a shame what happened to Micheal Elphick.Remember him appearing in EastEnders,he looked awful.Obviously the booze got the better of him? What a waste.

Good article. The film refered to above is the 60's mod scene film Quadrophenia. I remember Michael in the Elephant Man tv film? In the 80's. A very good actor indeed. A lot of the era's stars seemed to be troubled by alcoholism.

Yeah tragic what happened to Michael. Only saw bits & pieces of him in Eastenders but being polite he didn't look his best and like many other alcoholic actors did decline quite rapidly. Speaking of Eastenders didn't he help build the set in a past life?

Superb gritty telly. Elphick totally believe-able.

One Of Your Own is a personal favourite of mine. Along with Hit And Run, Sweet Smell Of Succession and Pay Off, it's a Carter-centric episode with a tough, believable story by Tony Hoare, a likeable anti-hero (Elphick), humorous moments and some violent action scenes. Like Messenger Of The Gods, this helped pave the way for Minder in that Dennis Waterman would play a character who tangled with the wrong side of the law.

It is a good one and Elphick is good in it. The only slightly unbelievable bit was George’s girlfriend who ended up sleeping with both Jack and the other guy, Tom, almost at random and immediately! I mean if Cosmo Smallpiece had turned up, would he have got lucky too?
