Very sad news He seemed such a likeable bloke and shall forever be typecast as Pike but that's not a bad thing. I'll never forget his appearance on Celebrity Mastermind when asked his name and Rick Wakeman called out from the other seats "Don't tell him Pike!". www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-68204488R.I.P. Private Pike

Sad news. Although he was a versatile actor with many differing roles under his belt, he always seemed happy to chat to those who just knew him as Pvt Pike.
Another mainstay of the golden era gone. RIP.

RIP Ian Lavender, I agree always seemed a nice bloke in interviews etc. Although always remembered for the aforementioned role I remember he was in other parts, guested as a campaigning MP in Rising Damp, was in one Carry On film (Behind) and the saucy espionage comedy "Now Now Comrade" which had a strong supporting cast although the film doesn't seem well remembered. Also a different part as the Brigadier in the 2016 Dad's army film.

A sad day that we have lost the last link with Dad's Army. Ian Lavender was superb as Pike. RIP
