Looking through Patridge's Dictionary Of Slang I noticed an entry for 'rigsby', Rigsby was originally called Rooksby but it's still quite funny to wonder how his name came about. Also noticed an entry for 'Mr Roper' which was a slang expression for a hangman.
Interesting info. about Rupert there, Arthur I believe the Rigsby surname actually comes from a parish in Lincolnshire, the same county where a lot of my family originated. Of course, the actual boarding house where we are situated is close to Macclesfield in Cheshire Vi

A clip of the actress who plays Brenda ( Gay Rose in the Rising Damp credits ). Always thought her accent was a bit affected, turns out she's Canadian.

It's 40 years ago this month (July 1979) that filming began on Rising Damp 'The Movie' and released nearly a year later in 1980. Unlike the classic sitcom which was set somewhere in the north of England, the filmmakers decided to use the London area for filming locations. I recently went to have a look at Rigsby's boarding house... It's located at 82 Chesterton Road, North Kensington THEN NOW Rupert stumbles out of the front door THEN NOW Rupert meets John, his new lodger THEN NOW Great memories! Vi

Another coincidence was the fact that I watched it today on YouTube! Good pics, Vi and I never thought it was filmed in the North where it was set, unlike the series, the location has a Sweeney/Minder feel to it. Talking of which, Dave from The Winchester turns up as the Dad of the rather attractive girl who Christopher Strauli was after.

Well done Vi some great photos. I'd love to have a look at the location myself sometime. So filming commenced a few months after the passing of Richard Beckinsale ? It must have been hard for some of the regulars to carry on without him so soon after. Charles.

Cheers lads Yes Charles, sadly Richard Beckinsale died in the previous March so a replacement was needed. However, the film is just a mish-mash of repeated dialogue from the series, so isn't very good at all. Great location though! Vi

Nice smudges Vi.
You need to find 1.6 million to live in a 2 bed flat there now & the rooms have none of the character ( nor spyholes ) of Rigsby's rooms. No overgrown garden to sunbathe in either no doubt.

Interesting stuff thanks Vi. I remember seeing the film a long time ago, but later remembered it as a compendium of dialogue and scenes from the series episodes.
