I’ve been watching some of the ITV3 repeats this weekend. I really enjoyed the episode where Rigsby tries to woo Miss Jones with a Matt Monro album, but he's completely drugged out of his eyeballs thanks to pills that Alan's given him! The bit where he plays the album at the wrong speed and sits there marvelling at Monro's voice is side-splitting My favourite line from Rising Damp :- Rigsby - "Where've you been?" Alan - "I've been to see Dr Zchivago." Rigsby - "What did he say?"

Arthur, as you mention above, it's disappointing that Frances De La Tour didn't contribute to the documentary. It would have been interesting to here from her, but why does she seem not to want to be associated with the show anymore? It's a bit like Martin Shaw and his attitude towards The Professionals. Vi

Another comedy classic that's stood the test of time.
Well written series, Leonard Rossiter at his best, but as essential the supporting cast and guest actors.
Lots of gems throughout - comedic timing and exchanges with Rigsby who responds with a word, part-completed sentence, inference, pause or gesture.
Nice to see the show so fondly remembered.

Vi I get the impression from the few interviews I've seen/read with her that she fears she'll always be known as Miss Jones, she says she did Rising Damp 'for the money' & rejected tv appearances on shows like 'Celebrity Squares'. Snobbery is at the heart of it I think, wanting to be remembered for her stage work rather than a sitcom, but she ought to be mature enough to accept that tv is seen by millions...Chekhov plays at obscure London theatres aren't & never will be.

I watched Richard on 'This Is Your Life' last week Arthur. He was a well liked guy.
Made about 1977 I think, two years before his death. As I watched his parents and sisters on the show I was thinking of the tragedy that lay ahead for the family in the not to distant future.

I was surprised at the number of views & comments considering the video only went up last month. Not the best This Is Your Life I've seen & for some reason no mention was made of his previous marriage & other daughters, some commenting seem to think this was Judy Loe's doing.

I remember watching some clips from this on a programme about him a few years ago. This particular episode of This Is Your Life was broadcast on 23rd November 1977, the year he finished with Rising Damp. It's really quite sad watching this now knowing he would die suddenly just a few months later Vi

Looking through Patridge's Dictionary Of Slang I noticed an entry for 'rigsby', Rigsby was originally called Rooksby but it's still quite funny to wonder how his name came about. Also noticed an entry for 'Mr Roper' which was a slang expression for a hangman.

What Rupert would have given to have lived up to that description, maybe that's why he was so frustrated
