Just finished off series 2 with this s one, and a worthy end, a very strong episode. Obviously filmed in the summer of 75, which was a good summer but overshadowed by 76. You can feel the heat haze in the great locations, Brunel university and the roads round Buckinghamshire. Loved it.

Yes Brunel University is the most unusual Sweeney location. It's modernist architecture giving the episode a great backdrop. Dean Harris as Wands, to me, is the best Sweeney villain. The underrated Ronald Lacey shows his versatility as the vulnerable Monk. The conclusion to this episode, is the Sweeney at its best. Hard hitting and Cynical drama.

It's the best episode in Series 2, IMO. It's interesting to note that Dean Harris (Jimmy Wands) and Ronald Lacey (Barry Monk) later appeared together again in a Bergerac episode called 'Whatever Lola Wants'.

Were into Series 3 now on the ITV4 reruns. Ive actually got this series on DVD but I will still be recording and watching them all. Of all the series, overall I think 2 was possibly the best, I like 3 as well but there were a couple of episodes in it I wasn't keen on, they are Bad Apple and Taste of Fear. Im in a minority among Sweeney fans with Taste of Fear I suspect. However, another episode later in the series, On the Run, was a kind of follow up to it, again with George Sweeney as Cook, and that one I thought was good.

Love that episode, has the same feel you described for Trojan Bus, great summer feel to the location shots and music was top notch.

Most of the ITV stuff is cut to get more ad time.

Know what you mean, Steve, it was filmed in 76 so it does have that great summer heat feel, but I always thought it was a bit out of the normal comfort zone and not that well written somehow

Re tv cuts, I recently compared the running times of a series ( not The Sweeney ) recorded from tv with the dvd version, when added together there was nearly 30 minutes missing from the 6 episodes.
