Reminiscent of the scene in Taste Of Fear where Jack is geeing up Hargreaves- 'I remember my first hairy one', Regan is a bit of a bully where new faces are concerned, think of the new driver in Faces & Soames in Sweeney 2.

As commented elsewhere - "Tomorrow Man" was considered as a pointer towards Criminals getting Technical Savvy - and Crime changing. This episode isn't far off the same - showing that Tech Savvy Criminals could easily muck about with Alarm systems to confuse the police - who didn't have knowledge of such equipment - so would need to draft in specialists.
According to a mate who worked for an alarm company - this story wasn't as far fetched as you would imagine.
There were teams of professional criminals hiring their services to foil alarm systems - "Wiremen"; these pop up in "Contact Breaker" (Keaver) and (can't recall the episode off the top of my head) the one with Alun Armstrong / John Challis / Peter Vaughan.
By the late 70s - alarms directly linked to Police Stations were being phased out; and such systems linked to a central monitoring station - who would contact the police.

One of my favorite episodes. Shame they couldn't have given Davy another episode. Well done yet again Gene - especially with the Time Lapse and additional details.
In the teaser at the Police Station control room - which I assume was a set at Colet Court....
The Alarm Monitoring Panels on the wall (opening closeup etc) - are genuine Home Office Approved units - which were fitted in Police stations across the country. The company "Snell" obviously has been added by Euston.
These units were modular and manufactured by AFA-Minerva (then, quite a big Alarm company and part of EMI) - who my next door neighbour once worked for - fitting such units and alarms on Banks etc.
He asked me if it was a genuine Police Control room - as the panels were actually functioning - and correctly too.
I'd think it was a purpose built set at Colet Court, and the Special Effects dept would have (accurately) got the panels doing what they should. Just shows - how keen Euston films were for keeping accuracy.
I don't think Police stations directly monitor alarm systems these days - it's all done through central receiving stations.

As a footnote to the story....
The plot was technically correct - IF villians, with the know how and equipment wanted to muck about with alarm systems - that would be one way they did it. So perhaps the story may have been based on true events.
As we know, many large groups of villians had members who specialised in certain things - "Wiremen" (or perhaps in todays Politically correct world "Wireperson") - as seen in 'Contact Breaker' and 'Stay Lucky eh' were experts in Alarm systems of the time.
My neighbour could write a book on some of the methods used to get round alarm systems.

I rewatched Country Boy recently and concluded its one of my favourites from series two
I like those episodes where we get to see Jack's flaws, in this instance his suspicion of, and hostility to, anyone from the outside who has specialist knowledge
As it turns out Davy is a really nice bloke which makes Jack seem even more unnecessarily surly and resentful
The high tech plot and the set up are well done and, although there's not much jeopardy in the episode, and it's a little incoherent, the mood and the atmosphere work really well
I especially like the dodgy villain on top of the towerblock and his all denim outfit. He's a wrong un and no mistake
4/5
