This was the first ever episode of the "Sweeney" I saw.
It was on a repeat on ITV during the late 70s/very early 80s - while mum nipped for a bath after putting us to bed, I'd shuffle downstairs on my backside and sneak into the Front room to watch it....
Strangely, I never remember seeing this episode until I got the Network DVDs in 2005. As I lived in the Central TV region I recall watching many repeated episodes on Friday night during the spring and summer of 1984, but not this particular one. Vi

Vi The first repeats I saw were around 1979-1980 on ATV. Though, these were not in any particular order, and seemed to be random episodes. Not sure if these repeats were just restricted to the Midlands.
The 1984 repeats would have been on Central, I saw most of; and if I am correct, "Tyne Tees" in the North East also repeated most of the series around that time too.
The first time I saw "Regan" was when it was repeated on UK-Gold. I think the first time I saw the entire Sweeney series was when it was repeated on Granada Plus (and most of the episodes had been edited - badly).
And when the DVD box sets came out - there were tons of scenes and dialogue I had never even seen!!

Channel 4 repeated the episode as part of their "Vintage Thames" season in the 1990s - alongside "Callan" and "Special Branch" 'Double Exposure'.
Some great faces in this episode too.
Roy Kinnear, Russel "Lonely" Hunter from 'Callan', Henry Woolfe (then presenting "Words & Pictures" on schools TV) and the great Micheal Cole.
Isn't this episode also famous for one scene - as it was shot during June 1975, one of the scenes captured the freak summer snow fall!
Gawd knows which was the first one I ever saw
I used to watch it with my mum and dad when it was first on. Never missed an episode so must have seen virtually all of them (if not all) first time round.
My dad hardly ever used to watch TV but never missed The Sweeney (or Morecambe and Wise)

Granada repeated some episodes in '84 too the spring/early summer IIRC although I think these like the Central repeats were from random series and not in any order. Suppose the whole of ITV was repeating it around then to a greater or lesser degree. This was when I first saw and loved the show.

Enjoyed watching this episode again last night, do like Roy Kinnear's acting - always slightly unsure and nervous in the characters he plays. With the Jimmy Dancer scene at QPR, it has a comedy feel about it, the way Jack looks to the camera and tuts as he runs to hop the fence. (Can see his odd leg here too!) And I though it was odd when Skip punches Christine in the end scenes - I thought why didn't he spot it was a woman by build? Great episode though and shows a more lenient side to Haskins, when he's normally giving Jack a hard time.

TV Times article from June 1975 previewing the second series, 'I Want The Man' was shown nearly half a year later in November.
