Its interesting to read peoples strong views on different episodes, I like to know why you think this episode is so poor. Its not one of the best for me, the plot is a bit fanciful.

Well, 3L, I just disliked it on first viewing a few years back. The story seemed a bit too slow and complex for me to understand and I needed to watch it more than once for things to become clearer. Ray Jenkins's other script for the series 'I Want the Man' always seemed somewhat better to me.

Try that show with Bob Mortimer and chap from the Fast Show.

Why do you think Manny Bellows randomly tears off bits of paper and chew them? In thought he was going to wrap some chewing gum before binning it but no, he chews it. Anyone else noticed this?

Not noticed that before at all Steve. Towards the end of the episode Brian Hall's character says to Bellow 'give me those keys & I'll buy you a paper shop to eat', so the writer must've put this paper eating habit in there as a strange character trait. Some interesting lines in this episode for sure.
Weird coincidence but as I watched the clip just now of Brian Hall fighting with Manny Bellow I thought of the Derrick O'Connor character in 'Out' in which Hall plays a taxi driver, then I looked at 'Trap' writer Ray Jenkins imdb profile & it mentions he was a teacher at Tulse Hill Comprehensive School. Tulse Hill is where Frank Ross asks taxi driver Hall to drop him off.
Compulsive paper eating is a recognised condition called Xylophagia-

After looking at Ray Jenkins credits I had a watch of his Armchair Thriller serial 'The Girl Who Walked Quickly'. This story, as well as 'Trap' & 'I Want The Man' all feature loner type men, mentally on edge, being kept prisoner in a confined space. The Armchair Thriller story is about a student with claustrophobia who is held captive & brainwashed by a group of political extremists ( one of them is Barry Stanton who played another political extremist in Faces ) then made to commit acts of terror.
